A backdoor cold front cleared out the atmospheric for the best radiational cooling.

What a incredibly beautiful day here. Low of 43, high of 67. Dew points dropped to the low 40's most of the day. We need more days like this.

46/83 for the day today. Spectacular day.  Love these cool start, warm finish type fall days.  It's bone dry though, only 0.02" MTD

46 at 5:02, 81 at 4:34. Got a lot done outside.

Low once again of 43, high 76. Dew points climbed into the upper 50's but still a very nice day.

Got a drenching 0.15" from the little front that has now finished passing through.

Was nice to see the clouds spittle a little down our domain, though.

It's been a while and I could see the squirrels looking at each other in my acorn-dappled yard, their eyes blinking in the tiny drops, and go,"What's that stuff?"

It is gusty here so no doubt the leaves in the mountains are coming down today with rain up there as well. Anyway here are some obs from the mountains (near Grandfather Mtn) from 10/17 as it pertains to fall foliage:

Severe drought very likely to expand across the Carolina’s and we are now likely to see back to back months with less than 1” of rain here. Not good, one bad symptom of the lackluster hurricane season

 Today here I’m experiencing the first widespread dewpoints below 50 of the season. They’re actually way down near 40. It’s a beautiful sunny day. I’m looking forward to my evening walk.

We have already had someone lighting fires along 540 in Raleigh.
