I was in college and had a part time job at a supermarket. The night Gloria hit, I had the 6 to midnight shift. I had to round up all the shopping carts, so I made a “raincoat” out of a Hefty trash bag.  
 

Drove back to school with branches coming down. Next day we played a mud football game against the girls.

I remember hoping they would let us off work early but alas. 

NYC got bullseyed.

What is notable is where the heaviest bands of rain within our CWA set up (more to the north and west of Philly metro) - 

But the winds along the coast were fierce!

As an obs, it's currently overcast and 77 with dp 65.  Am looking at the doppler with rain to our south.  Need some of that up here!

Mud football games are fun. My sister played in one during her senior year of high school as a running back. The next door neighbor was a junior in high school, and the running back of the other team. No one was able to stop either of them that day. My sister's team ended up winning.

Who won your game?

(Oh, and I bet you if Drought Guy was around when Gloria was happening, he'd be talking about how a drought was around the corner...)

I don’t recall, but I’ll say the girls.

Let’s face it, if I had the ball and a bunch of girls were chasing me with the objective of tackling me and rolling around in the mud…yeah, I’m not going to try my best to avoid that outcome.

sorry, I was not living here in PA at the time so I never experienced what was going on. I was down in Memphis Tn at the time. I had other hurricanes to deal with down there at the time Elena but more importantly, Memphis had over a foot of snow in one storm  in the winter of 85 . That would be like a 3 ft snow here.

Makes sense. The winter of 1984-85 was extremely cold here in SE PA, but snow wise, it was mainly nickel & dime events. Suppression sounds about right.

All of the cold and pretty much most of the snow was confined to month (January). December was really warm. Come to think of it, 2021-22 was a warmer, modern version of 1984-85.

Today will be our warmest day of the week along with some relatively high humidity for late September. Today’s highs will be in the upper 70's in the higher spots to lower 80's in valley locations. A couple of degrees cooler tomorrow followed by our chilliest weather so far this autumn season with highs by mid-week remaining in the 60's and morning lows well down into the 40's with even some 30's possible for our colder valley locations. We look dry through the entire week.
