2019 Mountains and Foothills Spring/Summer thread

Recommended Posts

A pretty balanced out day for early sun to evening rain each day this week. Again we are well above average for precipitation currently but the temps for this time of year are right at average so no complaints.

Not to complain, particularly since we're not very far removed from the 2016 wildfire season, but holy cow I'm ready for a good dry stretch.

Also we made it down to 49 here at the house. It was 45 over on the elk river early last Thursday morning. Nice change from the heat.

For August this has been the perfect weather. Absolutely loving this for August weather.

Yea, it's really hard to complain right now. Very mild for a typical mountain August. I remember last year this time thinking the humidity was insufferable.

Although its been "hot" up here recently. Tomorrow I get to experience nearly 100 degrees for the first time in a couple of years. I feel like my body isnt ready to sit in the concrete oasis known as the Knights stadium.

We have had so many storms today and this evening.  Its been exciting for a change. We are also going to get a taste of fall soon.

Quite the line of storms working through WNC at the moment. We’re getting heavy rains and gusty winds as well as a awesome light show!

Yeah we had thunder and lightning for hours and hours last night. Woke up to moderate to heavy rainfall currently.

What an amazing past couple of days! Saturday we did not get out of the 60s and Sunday we did not get out of the low 70s. Monday was also spectacular for August.

Per GSP's discussion this morning, it looks to continue:

.SYNOPSIS... A cool wedge of high pressure will linger across the region today, but will break down ahead of an approaching cold front that will cross the area Wednesday. Drier weather is forecast behind the front until late in the weekend.

Outlook: Scattered convection is expected Wed afternoon, as a cold front crosses the region from the northwest. Improving/drying conditions are expected for the latter part of the work week, while a another cold air damming event may set up for next weekend.

I dont think weve been above 63 in a few days here.  I love this weather...heading into the best half of the year in the high country!

Looking forward to the weather than next few days, sunshine with a hint of fall.  The radar this morning has the NWFS look at the TN border counties:snowing:

Moved back to the hills from Salter Path yesterday because of ANOTHER hurricane. Lost the pool, gazebo, and boardwalk and steps to the beach last year. Just had all those things rebuilt this spring. Picked up our return permits before we left yesterday so I'll be going back next week. Hopefully, they won't be required. We better have a killer winter this year to make up for it.

Trying to beat the heat by watching peoples weather forecasts for the winter, but now I'm hurting from laughing, specifically from the farmers almanac.

Older gentleman told me we would have a hard winter...he said the numerous tent making caterpillars was a sign of a hard winter :)  Ha!  We'll see :)  glad to be back on the site as we head into winter and cooler weather

Can't believe KAVL hit 91 F on 9-9-19.  IIRC Jason Boyer said that beat the maximum high temp for the months of June and August this summer.

Yeah this weather recently is ridiculous.  I still believe we are going to be warm and dry for the winter months. We are just in this pattern that I think supports that type of weather for us.
