Just got caught up on this thread. Very impressive swath of deep snowcover now extends from IA to MI! And Chicago certainly woke from the dead this past week.

Wave 1: 9.2" snow (0.71" liquid)

Wave 2: 0.9" snow (0.10" liquid)

Wave 3: 1.0" snow/sleet + zr (0.21" liquid)

A very snowy week here in SE MI. A parade of snowfalls has led to 21.5" falling here since last Sunday. Current snow depth is 14" but its now quite moisture laden.

Oh my aching back haha

2/4: 5.5"

2/5-6: 1.0"

2/7: 3.9"

2/9: 9.2"

2/10: 0.9"

2/11: 1.0" + ice

Several people were raking snow off their roof today. Its a very moisture laden snowpack. Depth is 14" with water content about 1.7". Todays icy mix added a crust to the top of the deep powder. Needless to say the snowbanks are huge.

I'm sure you'll have a 96" storm before the winter's over. You EC guys have nothing to be jealous of here, especially given the past week is a climatological anomaly.

Actually it all comes down to preference. Several NYC area posters commented on a fb weather page I follow they would prefer the type of winters here in the Lakes with the frequent snowfalls. One said that noreasters are fun but when they are done they are done.

Northern IL definitely took a big step forward with the snowfall over the past 10 days. Wish this had data north of the border for our Canadian peeps.

If the next few weeks didn't bring a big time warmup, Redfield might have a shot at the all time record. 467"

The map is a bit underdone, as most of SE MI should be in the 4-5 foot range. Not sure how accurate it is but yikes at 6-12" total in western MN.

It's actually quite impressive how expansive an area of deep snow really is now in the Midwest, southern Great Lakes, into Ontario. Initially I had mentioned that we had a deep snow swath stretching from Illinois to Michigan, however seeing canucks pictures made me realize that obviously stretches way into Canada. When I back out of my driveway I can't even see over the snow banks, and same thing around a lot of corners. Need to use extra caution but it is most certainly worth it!

It's good to see...but it's not really that impressive.  It's how Winter should be.

Interesting snowfall map. Pretty shocking to see that portions of MN have had less than 12" of snow all season...just awful. It just goes to show that, if you're away from the favorable side of the Great Lakes, winter snowfall is a crapshoot even at 45N.

Lol you and your standards . I wish you were mother nature. You set standards that are unrealistic to where record snow is decent and anything less sucks. Nevertheless i hope you enjoyed your snowy week! Obviously you guys were screwed all winter until this past week but you had a great week!

It is impressive for the expansive area that is.
