Torchageddon
The snow has been getting progressively heavier and now its at winter storm levels. The visibility is going down rapidly and its these pixie flakes that are sparkling in the light. Wind slowly picking up. I'm at 11-13 cm now. Ottawa Blizzard
The snow started at 6:25 pm and is really coming down now. Very fine snow, due to the cold temperatures.

snowstormcanuck
KC radar peppered with 30dbz returns but highway cams have been showing 3/4-1SM type snow. It's gonna have to start coming down harder than this if there's going to be 8"+ accums.

snowcaine
hmmm...maybe the cams are deceiving me. Snowcaine, was that 1" add'l in the last hour? 1.5" since it started snowing to my surprise. It was 0.5" earlier (said 1" but meant 1cm).
snowcaine
ssc, not sure if you recall that "storm" we had back in Feb of last year I think, where we had plates most of the storm and were super disappointed, but shockingly ended up with 10".... as underwhelming as pixie dust is, it does tend to accumulate pretty nicely. But personally, I'd take 6" from dendrite rippage over 12" of a pixie dust storm any day, but you take what you can get.

But personally, I'd take 6" from dendrite rippage over 12" of a pixie dust storm any day, but you take what you can get. I remember the storm a couple weeks ago. The one that dumped on Ottawa. It was mostly fine plates here in Toronto but I did mention at the time how efficiently it was accumulating. So yeah, I see your point. Visibility has been dropping last couple of refreshes of the cams. Looks like you're into moderate snow now.
Ottawa Blizzard
Snowing hard outside my place, really starting to accumulate. I'd estimate I'm up to 2".

Looks good to get into the 6-10" range based on these reports. Meanwhile -ZR here in London after 1/2" of snow. Ugh.
Ottawa Blizzard
Canuck, what's it like in London? It looks like you're right on the cusp, between snow and freezing rain. Have to say that EC did a good job with this storm, although I think a freezing rain warning is warranted for Niagara. Regardless, they did a good job on giving the public the head's up. snowcaine
Storm is moving quite quickly, we'll see if the back edge of the snow shield develops any further west before it makes its way here.
snowstormcanuck
Looking at KC radar, over towards Oshawa, you can see how the returns have been more intermitten. That's what the HRRR/RAP were indicating earlier over Toronto, the pivoting of the snow shield along the area of best frontogenesis, but they were too far N/W. So the city's sitting pretty right now. Yup. That's why those GGEM/GFS maps showing 12"+ were never in the cards.

Powerball
Looks like the storm's last gasps for 8 mile south. Still getting a steady snow here. Sort of lucked up in the pivot point for wrap around snows this time around, per the radar. May be able to tack on another inch as a result. We'll see. Ottawa Blizzard
Yup. That's why those GGEM/GFS maps showing 12"+ were never in the cards. According to my Intellicast radar London should be getting into a bit more snow.
