I hope I don't see rain for 10 years after this...

Same here man, and this isn't because of whining about snow..that is miniscule. I helped my buddy rebuild his life pretty much after the Loyalsock Ck. flooded 10 feet into his house. It was unreal. And the rainy weather the rest of this year hasn't helped. It's been just crazy.

I wouldn't be so sure on that yet. A few little changes and we have a snow storm. Or cold and dry. CMC is interesting. Euro hopefully is good tonight.

I don't know man. It takes a great track for us, and still no real cold air. Any further east, it lets more cold air in but less precip. Further west and it's all rain for sure. Thread the needle type storm..bleh.

The issue with the GFS tonight is that it runs a classic double barrel low up the eastern seaboard with a more prominent primary going up the wrong side of the apps and a late blooming and fairly weak coastal low, hence it would likely make for a rain to slop show with the Xmas eve storm. The 0z Canadian shoves this out and early looks at the Euro text data look similar in that regard with a light snowfall over the stations i looked at (AOO, MDT, UNV). Tons of features running around this week along with timing/temp issues, so this event is going to be subject to change of course. I do feel for the region as a whole that the best chance of a snowfall comes with this Xmas eve/day storm. The Friday system could feature some kind of a changeover in the northern tier and perhaps toward the end of the event in the western areas but the low level temps just don' seem to be there for that one.

Anyone know where to find record minimum for least amount of snow yearly? Always wondered what regions our stations mon has been.

You can see the most recent winters here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/ctp/features/snowmaps/index.php?tab=norms

Thing is, that doesn't show 73-74, which was really bad, and some of the really awful winters of the 30s (that old timer who used to tell you how much it snowed when he was a kid? If he grew up in the 30s, he was full of crap).

Pittsburgh has snow records that put other offices to shame. This gives an idea of some past winters: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/pbz/tsnow.htm#MOST

You're right, that web site is full of great records.

Thank you. Pitt had 8.8" in 1918-19, holy crap.

Wow the GFS went from a double barreled type slop fest at 0z to absolutely nothing at 12z for the Xmas eve/day storm. Though I guess we're getting into the GFS's "denial range".

That alone has drastically changed the outlook after that storm.

We go from a major EC troff with -10 850's into PA to a major ridge with the freezing mark pushing into NE.
