Yeah. Same in Adair county. Must be an elevation thing.

Yea it has to be, I really have no clue...just moved to arkansas a few months ago from missouri. Missouri was kinda the same though where I lived, it would be raining/mix at my place then you cross the county line 8 miles north and it was snowing lol. Was pretty crazy there also

Yea man its horrible now, it wasnt so bad all day just mainly the bridges and overpasses. The ground was still warm I guess from the previous few days in the upper 60's lol. People are panicking bad here, I guess this isnt a normal thing in this area idk and all the past ice storms I guess I can see why. Whats your thinking for this to change over to snow down my way later on tonight?

I gotta think this cold air intrusion will make it there by this second wave later tonite. Should b all snow then.

Round 1... There may be a round 1.5 for you down there.. lol..... Round 2 starts later.

It's still snowing after this at 8 AM from around OKC east.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO

822 PM CST Thu Dec 5 2013

...Evening Update for Ongoing Winter Storm...

.UPDATE...

Issued at 805 CST THU DEC 5 2013

The winter storm continues to impact the region this evening. The

wintry mix of precipitation that impacted portions of the area

today has changed over to all snow early this evening except for far

south central Missouri where a mix continues. This mix of wintry

precipitation will change over to all snow by midnight tonight if

not sooner.

The snowfall is currently occurring along and south of Interstate

44 with a lull in the snow occurring north of the Interstate 44

corridor. Light to moderate snow will continue to affect southern

Missouri south of Interstate 44 this evening, with the snow

expected to expand northward during the overnight hours into

Friday morning. The snow will then taper off from west to east

Friday afternoon coming to an end late Friday afternoon.

IR satellite imagery is showing cooling cloud tops across Oklahoma

into Texas ahead of the upper level trough swinging east into the

plains. A strong upper level jet is also developing to the north

with the area being in the right entrance region of the jet. This

will result in the light to moderate snow continuing through the

overnight hours into Friday morning. Temperatures are currently in

the 20s and will drop into the teens overnight. These cold

temperatures will allow high snow to liquid ratios with 15:1 if

not higher snow ratios occurring tonight into Friday morning. With

the snow expected to continue this evening along with the high snow

ratios...we have increased snow amounts some. Storm total snow

falls including what fell this afternoon are now expected to be

1 to 3 inches north of Highway 54, 3 to 6 inches south of Highway

54 to north of Interstate 44, with 6 to 10 inches generally along

and south of Interstate 44 with locally higher amounts to 12

inches possible across far southern and south central Missouri.

I am now at home on far northern edge of Oklahoma City (near Quail Springs mall if you happen to be local). We are still getting very light snow at the moment and roads are pretty horrendous. I didn't measure but I would say we've gotten a solid 2" of (mostly) snow here so far. Earlier in the evening I was on the south side of OKC and, at that point (around 6:30 pm), they had gotten mostly ice. There was perhaps a half inch of sleet on the ground and a mix of sleet and freezing rain was still falling there. FWIW, NWS OUN has been right on the money so far, including correctly nailing the snow/sleet/freezing rain line running right through the middle of OKC. Big thumbs up to them.

Sleet storms are awful... mainly because you think of how much more snow you could have if it wasn't sleet. :(

I know...  I still think it has to change over sometime,,

Exactly!   Looking at about an inch of sleet/snow, although nearby over the MO border, it is closer to 3". I guess the glass half full attitude works best!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK

851 PM CST THU DEC 5 2013

...UPDATE...

.DISCUSSION...

WIDESPREAD LIGHT TO MODERATE PRECIPITATION CONTINUES FROM NW AR

INTO SE OK...WITH A GRADUAL EROSION OF HEAVIER PRECIP ACROSS NE

OK. MEANWHILE...CLOUD TOPS CONTINUE TO COOL ACROSS NW TX AS LIFT

INCREASES AHEAD OF THE NEXT WAVE WHICH WILL TRACK ACROSS THE

REGION LATE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY. THERE IS LIKELY TO BE LITTLE IF

ANY BREAK IN PRECIP ACROSS SE OK BEFORE PRECIP COVERAGE AND

INTENSITY INCREASES AGAIN LATER TONIGHT. DRY LOW LEVELS WILL

CONTINUE TO LIMIT PRECIP EXPANSE ALONG AREAS NEAR THE OK/KS

BORDER. THIS IS HANDLED WELL WITH CURRENT OVERNIGHT POPS.

PRECIP TYPE HAS BEEN A BIT ERRATIC THIS AFTERNOON AND

EVENING...WITH A BAND OF VERY HEAVY SLEET HAVING ALREADY MOVED

THROUGH EAST CENTRAL OK INTO NW AR. THE NORTHERN PERIPHERY OF THIS

BAND CHANGED TO A ZONE OF HEAVY SNOW WITH QUICK ACCUMULATIONS OF

2-5 INCHES OBSERVED ACROSS LOCATIONS NEAR THE AR/MO BORDER.

FURTHER SOUTHEAST...A SIGNIFICANT ICE STORM CONTINUES UNDERWAY

ESPECIALLY ACROSS PORTIONS OF SEBASTIAN AND LE FLORE COUNTIES. THE

TREND WILL BE TOWARD THE COLUMN COOLING AND THE FZRA ZONE SHIFTING

A BIT FURTHER SOUTHWARD...WHILE SLEET AND SNOW BECOME MOST

DOMINANT OVERNIGHT INTO FRIDAY.

THE 00Z KFWD SOUNDING REVEALED THE MAGNITUDE OF THE LOW LEVEL

AIRMASS BY PUSHING THE COLD LAYER TOWARD -6 C BENEATH THE WARM

NOSE. THIS FAVORS A REFREEZE OF PRECIP TOWARD SLEET AND GIVEN THIS

THE ICE TOTALS HAVE BEEN LOWERED FROM PITTSBURGH/HASKELL/LATIMER

COUNTIES. ACCORDINGLY THE ICE STORM WARNING WILL BE ADJUSTED TO A

WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THESE COUNTIES.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LITTLE ROCK AR
953 PM CST THU DEC 5 2013

.UPDATE...

HAVE REFINED THE PRECIP TYPE AND AMOUNTS FOR THE OVERNIGHT
PERIOD...AS WELL AS TEMPS ACROSS THE STATE. NOT A BIG CHANGE
REALLY IN TERMS OF ICE/SLEET/SNOW PLACEMENT FROM EARLIER
FORECAST. HOWEVER...DO HAVE THE SLEET SNOW TRANSITION ACROSS THE
NWRN COUNTIES SOONER...AS WELL AS SOME LOCATIONS SEEING THE
FREEZING RAIN TO SLEET TRANSITION A BIT SOONER. AXIS OF HEAVIEST
FZRA WILL STILL BE FROM WEST CENTRAL SECTIONS...INTO CENTRAL AND
NERN SECTIONS OF THE CWA THROUGH THE SUNRISE TIME FRAME. HAVE ALSO
ADDED ISOLATED THUNDER AS SOME LOCATIONS COULD SEE A FEW CLAPS OF
THUNDER OVERNIGHT WITH THE RAINFALL. THIS COULD ALSO BE THE CASE
IN AREAS THAT ARE SEEING THE FZRA AND SLEET...AND EVEN NOT OUT OF
THE QUESTION IN THE SNOWFALL AS THERE IS SOME VERY WEAK CONVECTIVE
INSTABILITY WELL ALOFT IN THOSE REGIONS. THESE COULD ALSO BE WHERE
THERE ARE ENHANCED ACCUMULATION AMOUNTS.

Thundersnow would be AWESOME!!!!

According to local met on KNWA in NWA there are reports of thunder in Benton Co.  He says he has video that he will post on FB after the 10PM news.

I hear ya. We all probably have lost a lot of sleep waiting on models every day this week. I can't sleep during a snowstorm at all either. Lol

I know I keep telling myself Im getting too old to be doing this anymore but nope, even if i do lay down my brain will not let me sleep lol.

I want to enjoy this though cause by what neighbors tell me this doesn't happen to often here! Its pretty bad but hell I grew up on the east coast and back in the late 80's when I was teenager we had bombs of snowstorms after bombs....noreasters back then were awesome!!! Dumped 10" + a week! so this is nothing to me

Yeah. I wish I lived somewhere where that happens sometimes. But I'm glad I live in a state where pretty much every kind of weather you can imagine happens so its a decent trade off I guess. Lol

Very true, I have never seen weather change so fast in my life!!! One day its 70 and the next, well look its snowing/zr and sleet lol. It never ceases to amaze me out here for sure!

I do miss the massive snow storms though, nothing like howling 40mph+ winds with gobs of snow so large you cant see a thing and drifts up to your shoulders....was awesome and Im glad for the memories. Would have been nice to have cameras and camcorders back then like we have now days for remembering and sharing stuff, I have a short term memory and probly forget most all the storms except the monster ones.

Lol, I am sleep deprived this week!! I guess I'm still hoping, like the rest of us on here to get bombed on tomorrow:) Problem is, we've waited 3 years for this? Sleet Storm..ugh..I want my blizzards back!! I know I am being an emotional woman, but dang it, I got spoiled thinking GHD Blizzard would become the norm for us. WRONG
