Are the observation sites going offline because of funding? It’s a shame to see so many good long recording stations stop.

I’m very skeptical of accumulating snows with the later pulse of energy on the gfs given lack of other model support, but we’ve juiced up in some other events close to game time so maybe a minor event down here remains on the table.

I’d much rather have people try to be funny through the down periods than incessantly miserable. At the end of the day though, and I mean this sincerely, daily winter tracking—the monotony of watching models, identifying “threats”, and following them to conclusion is awful. I loathe it. It’s more soap opera than substance most of the time. It doesn’t matter the subforum. It doesn’t matter if the season is front-loaded, back-loaded, or nonexistent. Trying to find snow is far more emotional to wx enthusiasts around here than any other season or type of weather. Barely anything is learned (again talking about daily tracking not the outlook or broader longwave pattern analysis which can be educational), clearly people’s moods are affected, and it brings out the dumbest in people—myself squared included in that. The real joy comes from a consistent dopamine drip of models and observing snow. Virtually all the rest is drudgery. To me at least.

I’d say anything over .25 is legit, but I believe ice storm warning criteria is .50”.

When a model looks awful, just do what we’re doing now and not talk about it. Just let the silence speak for itself.

I think our melts have been better than all other subforums combined this season. This is my go-to for The Bachelor style fights, love scenes, and implosions.

Five days out makes it “feel” more realistic. We’ll see if we get other ops (cough: EURO) on board for more favorable cyclogenesis. It has been close on that model too. We’re in the game. Even an advisory event would be a win given the broader pattern coming.

I give it a D. Imby we had an advisory event that ended up a little over performer, and one of the coldest Christmas Eve/Christmas combos in decades. That said, December failed to clear the lowest of bars in producing a widespread warning event when the pattern looked excellent. Easy F for the porked areas

Absolutely extraordinary out there. Places like Buffalo and Watertown getting a snow bonanza while Rochester and Sizzlecuse are light years behind. Though after the catastrophic event in Buffalo, many are probably done emotionally with this season. Speaking of, I saw the BUF recorded what may be a record for low elevation in sustained blizzard conditions. What’s the record for a place like BOS/BDL/NYC @ORH_wxman?
