  1. One of the local mets said it was the windiest April in Cedar Rapids since 1994 and the windiest in Waterloo since 1978.
  2. Mother Nature is trying to ixnay the plains drought... good for everyone.
  3. The best Cedar Rapids was able to do during this warm-up is 65º, which is exactly average today. The next chance to see 70º is another week away.
  4. This system had been a bit of a nothingburger for my area, but a solid line of heavy rain moved through this afternoon and boosted my rain total to 0.64". My April precip total will finish at 4.44", the second consecutive 4+" month.
  5. Rain held us down in the 40s through midday, but then it quickly cleared and we actually had a very pleasant mid afternoon through evening... full sun, modest breeze, and low to mid 60s.
  6. Yet another cold, windy day. I am beyond sick of this. We get one good day each week, and even then it comes with a howling wind. Upper midwest springs can really suck if you get stuck in a bad pattern.
  7. 26º near my home this morning, 22º at the airport for a new record low.
  8. Yesterday's HRRR runs showing 3-5" around here were a bit too ebullient, but I did receive a very nice 1.77".
  9. 18z HRRR... still going nuts. It also now has nearly all the rain falling after sunrise, which is a bit unusual.
  10. Models are suggesting a heavy rain event in the area late tonight into Friday morning. Placement has been shifting around a bit.
  11. Minot, ND picked up another foot of snow today. That's 3-4 feet in a week.
  12. A couple locations south of Des Moines got 3-4" of snow. The atmosphere was very dry here for most of the day, so all I've seen is some super light rain this evening.
  13. We had a decent snow rate for a while, but the warm ground prevented any accumulation.
  14. We had a couple hours of sleet and now we've changed to snow. It's coming down pretty good.
  15. 70º for Cedar Rapids on Wednesday is gone now that all models have sped up the frontal passage to first thing in the morning, which is what the GFS has been for showing for days. We do have a shot at 70º on Tuesday, though.
  16. Cedar Rapids hit 70º this afternoon, the first time since March 21st. It was not expected at all. The forecast had only recently got bumped up to the mid 60s. It's too bad the wind was too strong to really enjoy the nice temp for most of the day.
  17. The cold season up here lasts one month too long. I would love to be able to snap my finger and add 10º to the average high temp after the spring equinox.
  18. We hit 75º back on March 21st. We've only hit 50º three times since then. It appears next Wednesday will be our only 70º day out of the upcoming pattern change. The latest Euro then shows the upper midwest plunging right back into a long cold pattern with 40s, or even 30s, for highs for several days. I really despise springs like this. #!@$#(&*!@#(*^
  19. GFS and Euro precip next week. lol The GFS pushes the initial front way south while the Euro keeps it stalled over us. Then the GFS tracks the main low well north while the Euro tracks it over us, so this morning's runs are basically the driest and wettest possible scenarios.
  20. Only 0.23" here last evening, but that puts me at about an inch for the month.
  21. The warmest day of the week turned into another stuck-in-the-40s stinker. We may go the first nine days of April without hitting 50º.
