  1. The GFS and the CAMs were right about the band of thunderstorms through central Iowa late this afternoon. I picked up 0.35" of rain, with plenty of rumbles and a bit of small hail.
  2. It appears there won't be much to talk about for the next week or two. I guess that will make it easy to get my garden planted.
  3. 0.31" here overnight, maybe a bit better than expected. I was able to fill my rain barrel before we head into the long dry stretch.
  4. Despite the warm, moist air surging north into Iowa, most models show little, if any, storm activity around here. Are we capped or something?
  5. Early to mid spring, 2012, we received a fairly normal amount of precip around here. The spigot shut off in May.
  6. My final rain total is 3.12". That was a lot of fun. I love heavy rain and it has been a long time since the last heavy rain event. There were a few lightning flashes, but it wasn't much up here in the cold air.
  7. The CAMs nailed this evening's heavy rain event. The heavy band pivoted right over Cedar Rapids, causing the NWS to issue the first flash flood warning of the season. My total is 3.05", with a bit more to come.
  8. A few of the meso models are suggesting a few spots around here could get 2-4" of rain today. A 2" soaker would be great. The soil is pretty dry.
  9. The pattern is looking pretty wet and stormy late this week through week two.
  10. I lost a strip of shingles from the corner of my roof yesterday during the howling wind. The forecast had 20 gusting to 35, but we got 30 gusting to almost 50.
  11. Some real nice snow totals in Iowa.
  12. There was a nw trend with the snow band a day or two ago. Over the last few model runs, it has reversed and is trending back southeast, away from MSP.
  13. 2-4" of snow fell overnight in the southeast corner of Iowa.
  14. I'm on the west side. The red cell moved right over my house, but it didn't produce anything noteworthy... maybe 50 mph? with some decent lightning and not much rain.
  15. I got some lightning, thunder and some gustiness, but overall a big dud for much of eastern Iowa.
  16. For a week all models have shown a strong line moving through eastern Iowa this evening. So far, the line approaching my area is weak crap. The 40s dews are not helping.
  17. The Weather Channel has a Torcon of 9 out of 10 for Jackson, MS tomorrow.
  18. The GFS looks nearly identical to the Euro, with this morning's run being a bit farther south.
  19. Models are getting a bit frisky with the midweek storm. The new Euro is stronger and farther south. Other models are farther north. This Euro run has 70º here Tuesday and then heavy snow and wind Wednesday.
  20. Models continue to tease some snow across Iowa mid next week, right after we hit 70º again early in the week.
