  1. Well we are having multiple models that are starting to come into agreement about what could happen Thursday. The 18z GFS just hammers us with snow and some ice. We have some other models that are showing wintery precipitation of some sort that will affect us Thursday. Stay tuned as things may become active very quickly.
  2. I think we may get one more last gasp outside the mountains at the beginning of March. It looks like blocking with set back up and the Pacific may become a bit more favorable in that time frame.
  3. Yeah you are right. The Pacific can make us or break us. Blocking has helped us not torch all winter. If not for blocking in the NAO region we would have set a lot of records I believe with how crappy the Pacific has been. I think the EPO is just as important as the NAO with what you just alluded to.
  4. Yeah too much of a good thing. This pattern can suck it. One of the biggest disappointments in recent years with blocking and such.
  5. Yeah too much of a good thing. This pattern can suck it. One of the biggest disappointments in recent years with blocking and such.
  6. Im sure it will sometime in our lifetime. Just a series of unfortunate events...
  7. Yep. This would have been the perfect pattern for us.
  8. Also we are losing blocking in the AO and NAO regions. The AO is a straight shot towards the positive in and the NAO is hovering around neutral and of course the PAC jet is no damn help staying crappy.
  9. This has been one of the most disappointing pattern changes in some time. It's becoming clear that we will only see marginal cold temps from this PV. Enjoy the rain and 33 because that is all I see that we are going to get.
  10. Welcome! Yes you are in the right thread.
  11. Some freezing rain up north tonight. Ashe-Alleghany NC-Watauga-Grayson- Including the cities of West Jefferson, Sparta, Boone, Independence, Whitetop, Troutdale, and Volney 405 AM EST Thu Feb 11 2021 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO NOON EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze. * WHERE...In Virginia, Grayson County. In North Carolina, Ashe, Alleghany NC and Watauga Counties. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to noon EST Friday.
  12. This is what I was talking about yesterday in our thread.
  13. I dont think so. I think March could be 50/50 with an absolute crap April and first half of May...
  14. No flipping kidding! Basically since we had tge severe drought it has rained non stop.
  15. Yeah I mean im not saying we dont get winter weather but im not holding my breath on the arctic air getting here. Also Haywood does not do well in CAD situations. As you said its either rain or snow. But I am very happy with this winter so far and yes we have a couple more months to add onto our totals.
  16. Truthfully im not sure if we see any arctic air. Several years ago I saw were a strong cold front got hung up right at us for days. Places all through Tennessee and even Alabama got impulses of winter weather day after day while we rotted at 40 and rain. I have a feeling that may be the case here.
  17. Yeah today is absolutely beautiful. An open your windows in the house kind of day.
  18. The mid to long range thread is great for a laugh most days...
  19. Yeah hedging or getting excited about one run from any model is a huge mistake and has been all winter. Say what you will but the euro is struggling. Literally a 20 to 30 degree change for one area in just one run. The GFS has been a bit more consistent recently. That being said like some of the mets have already said, there are a lot of variables that are going into what is what... You have the MJO, the PV, all the blocking from one end of the globe to the other. The complexity in which current and future weather patterns are based on are line walking on a tight rope currently. You could go either way. That's why the whole norms of winter are not norms of this winter so far. Ive seen a lot of the pattern will relaxe, or the pattern is ripe when truly we have been stuck in between both so far.
  20. Just got home from work. I have 5 inches and its absolutely hammering this morning. Roads are completely snow covered and are very slick. Current temp is 29.
  21. Pouring the snow here at work. Roads are a mess. Im looking at probably 3 inches here in town.
