  1. LI can get exceptionally hot on the right winds. CPK needs a couple more dry days, to dry out the vegetation. It doesn’t feel that hot yet on the UWS
  2. It’s not 80 right on the beaches today. More like 70. Any westerly component in the wind will up well enough to drop temps at the beach
  3. That’s the best looking wave coming off Africa at this time of year I can remember. If it were peak season I would expect a long track major. It’s just so early.
  4. Except we got jumped with the storms. I was shocked at how dry things were at my parents house yesterday, seems Wednesday’s storms managed to weaken just enough before reaching there. Let’s see if things come together today. I have a feeling we get missed just to the south
  5. Looks like a wet micro burst to me. We could play back the radar loops and see if there was any rotation detected. this evening should produce a few more severe storms in our area. Leaning towards central and south jersey.
  6. Excellent storm driving home from garden city to lynbrook. Not severe though as winds were 40ish in gusts. Lighting was the main show, with some epic bolts
  7. Good thing we had the drought busting tropical storm last week (Nassau County) as we head into another hot dry period. To me it looks like the flow will be prohibitive for convection at the coast as we have seen time and time again this summer
  8. I’m thinking allot of late bloomers and Caribbean cruisers, which end up close to the east coast and in the gulf. Very interesting times on the way!
  9. Suns out in Brooklyn. Had some legit flooding on the way from manhattan
  10. I wouldn’t say that, that band has some very heavy tropical rain embedded with off the charts rates. The stuff over eastern Pa is more stratiform type rain with lighter rates. If you get into the band for a while you can quickly add up some decent totals.
  11. Agreed, I could see JFK gusting to 50. The cough shore barrier islands to 60 with a direct onshore flow off the ocean.
  12. Water temps (at least at the surface) are way above normal. I would think in the future our area will be much more prone to local development like this.
  13. Not after all the rain we are about to get. Weeds and foliage for the loss.
  14. Nws really downplaying any wind potential for the island. I think there will be more wind then forecast, these hybrid type systems are generally good wind producers in the SE quadrant
  15. The back door front squashed the storms before they could make it to the island. Had three drops in wantagh and a couple hundredths in lynbrook. Luckily the coast did relatively well last week. I think we all make up for it Friday
  16. Pretty much spot on. It also has to do with water temps, the warmer the better for clearer waters and how much mixing there has been from surf. I have seen the ocean go from turquoise to murky brown from the start of a hurricane swell. Offshore water temps at the NY harbor buoy are exceptionally warm for so early in the summer, already at 76 degrees! This should help with convection this week.
  17. Looks like a flash flooder forming over queens. I can see the towers from the uws
  18. Have some incredible hail damage on the UWS from last night. Trees are shredded, based on videos I saw from coworkers that were here last night the hail was golf ball size and accumulated. I wish I was here to see it. Now on to the cleanup.
  19. There should be some big winners in the rain department with slow moving convection. Any storms that setup and air could produce flash flooding. Now to get one to setup on the uws!
  20. Par for the course. I think allot of it has to do with the extremely dry soil conditions near the coast as well.
  21. Seems like our best threat in a while. Damaging winds are a real possibility. Maybe even the D word. I’ll take anything, as long as it comes with heavy rain.
  22. Exactly. What we need is an actual low to track slowly over us, with onshore flow and stratiform rains. A summer nor’easter type deal where it rains light to moderate for a couple days. When the ground gets super dry it hardens up and runs off very easily
  23. Another day without rain? Not a good way to start the summer. As we have seen in the past drought often leads to more drought.
  24. Offshore water temps are finally making their way through the 60s, that should help make precip easier to come by for the coast. Something about water temps between 50-70 are very stabilizing
  25. I’m really hoping for a switch to wet, starting the warm season already in dry state is going to be a nightmare for me watering.
