  1. I believe that ice storm in 1994 hammered us at the Jersey Shore as well and was the same day as the California earthquake. We may have been off for school for MLK day. That was the most ice I've ever seen at the shore. It was even worse a few miles northwest of Belmar.
  2. We are stuck in Manasquan waiting for the tidal flooding to recede. More than 2 dozen vehicles damaged or ruined, more than a dozen high water rescues. Over on the point side the ocean breached and came into the street.
  3. MT HOLLY just upgraded the Jersey Shore to the HWW. I'll be reporting at the Manasquan Inlet from 8-3 tomorrow. ...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 11 AM EDT SATURDAY... The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect from 3 AM to 11 AM EDT Saturday. The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect. * WINDS...East 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. * TIMING...From late tonight through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected.
  4. You can only show images of Bolivar, New Orleans, Mantoloking, etc for so long. In the end, it's their lives they are gambling with. Like that old man on Mt St Helens.
  5. We had flash flooding at the shore today thanks to those tiny showers on radar.
  6. Somehow my town (point pleasant beach) has managed to miss most if not all of the storms this week and last week and even noticing the lawns brown up lol
  7. Getting nothing but spam on my iPhone again trying to browse the forums. Can someone please help
  8. Mike Rizzo (news 12 met), his GF, Noni Hodges (News 12 met) and myself chased from NJ to Seneca, South Carolina to the Duke Energy facility in the upstate. I just threw this little video together of our experience. If I said I didn't cry when it happened I would be lying. If I said I didn't cry assembling this video, again, I would be lying. We had 2 minutes 30 seconds of totality. It was the greatest single nature moment of my life. I find myself even getting choked up when trying to describe to friends back at home what it was actually like.
  9. I am covering what was probably an EF-0 tornado in Luzerne County, PA today for my news. It's so shocking to see the southern death toll so high. When I got home from work yesterday, I was watching TWC and ABC 33/40 coverage simultaneously. It was the best wall-to-wall severe coverage I have ever seen. But I got a sick feeling when the debris started raining down in Birmingham. It was a sick to my stomach feeling, and those fears are realized. We had quite a bit of damage in our coverage area in NEPA and Central PA...but it really makes you take one step back when you're covering a couple hundred trees snapped off and then look at the areal shots from Tuscaloosa and see how many innocent people--who woke up that morning ready to live their life, had theirs taken away from them so suddenly, so horrifically, and so tragically.... Anyone negatively commenting on the media's coverage during the storms yesterday needs to just take a step back and understand hundreds/thousands of lives may have been saved from advanced warning the on-air mets were providing--from TWC to ABC 33/40 to all the affiliates in the south that were running wall-to-wall coverage. Negatively charged comments toward the media should be aimed and centered to the stations that aired regular programming during the time of the southern outbreak...
