  1. 8 hours from Plattsburgh to Point Pleasant Beach in a drive that usually takes 5. Worth every minute.
  2. Totality in Plattsburgh. The few high clouds had zero effect of the eclipse comparing it to 2017 in South Carolina. Saw both diamond ring phases and we were treated to Baily's Beads throughout totality. It's tough to see here
  3. Stayed the night in Lake George and visited several breweries! We are trying to decide if Plattsburgh is still good or try to navigate the northern tier of Vermont into the NE kingdom. roads will be jammed if we do that option but worried about high cirrus.
  4. I was in the middle of a serious interview on zoom from my office in Wall when it hit. It took a few seconds to register what was happening. Very loud in person although the laptop recording didn't pick up the noise that much.
  5. I'm most worried about that band of high cirrus coming from the west. What we noticed in South Carolina back in 2017 once the eclipse started the cumulus clouds actually decreased as more of the sun became covered. Less heating perhaps.
  6. Quarter sized hail at my sister's house in Howell from the 6 pm storm.
  7. KDIX just popped on. Hopefully it stays!
  8. The models show a narrow corridor of strong winds for a few hours basically from Barnegat Light to Raritan Bay for NJ and points northeast. Things get cranking around 12/1 p.m.
  9. Thunderstorm woke me up here at the beach.
  10. Stormy day for Jersey especially south tomorrow on the nam.
  11. Destination: Airborne Park Speedway Plattsburgh. Btw if anyone is on the fence of going, it's absolutely worth it. This is a video I made from our 2017 chase
  12. hoping we thread the needle between the pulling out closed low and the system over the upper midwest. This could be really really good.
  13. Major high tide bust (in the good direction) tonight along the beaches. It's coming in about a foot lower than modeled.
  14. I wanted to start this topic early. Is anyone going to chase even though the odds are clouds? I chased the 2017 all the way to Duke energy in South Carolina and it was an absolute life-changing experience. Our plan is to take a bunch of fellow News12ers and friends to Plattsburgh to Airborne Speedway Park parking lot, right off the Northway. Our options that morning from our staging spot at Lake George could get us anywhere from buffalo/Niagara (Traffic issues for sure) to Vermont. My record to get to Airborne Speedway from the NJ Beach is just under 5 hours - it's an easy drive. Thoughts?
  15. Gonna go from talking about enhanced fire danger Thursday (it could be a red flag day perhaps over central and southern Jersey) to flood potential in 24 hours.
  16. Concerning to coastal areas is a modeled ocean storm this weekend and into early next week to coincide with the spring tide full moon. We will have to watch this closely for effects on an already eroded coastline from wildwood to long island after this winter.
  17. It's going to feel amazing today. Already can feel the warmth bringing the trash cans out just now in the sunshine.
  18. Somehow my flight made it into Atlantic City without any delays or issues yesterday morning! Although it was snowing lightly, it did not stick - in fact, when I got home to point beach, there was absolutely no trace or signs it even snowed. However, heading to work today, there was snow on the ground in Wall. I think the models completely overdid everything south of the 195 corridor.
  19. TPA to Acy, landing at 11:30am. Spirit. Dunno what their policy is to change dates but.... hopefully I won't have to find out.
  20. Just took a break from mentally exhausting ocean county bs to catch up on the pages in here. Great discussions all. Looks like the Florida rule won't grant us a snowstorm this year unfortunately. Every year I head to Tampa for Super Bowl weekend and we usually get nailed while away. Hopefully second half of the month delivers. Non-weather stories are boring. Keep in mind as well while the shore areas rocked during 2010-2018, those living west, and in NEPA got skunked. Here's hoping for a trackable SOMETHING by month's end.
  21. Out in King of Prussia for the weekend. Had 1.5 at 8:30 this heavy band got us to about 2.5 now.
  22. 1.5 inches in King of Prussia Pa where I'm set up for the next two days. I see Monmouth was dropped out of the wsw. Not surprised.
  23. I'm doing a story tonight on the difficult decision making process behind the scenes which superintendents face. Looks like we picked the right district, focusing on Jackson Township. Kinda surprised to see a warning here actually. I don't see how with this current forecast schools would even attempt to open as the super told me they are moving away from early dismissals. That never made sense to me, let's send the kids home in the worst conditions.
