  1. OKC is in plant hardiness zone 7a with an average annual minimum temperature between 0F to 5F, -14F is zone 5b, nearly zone 5a (-15 to -20), almost a full 20 degrees colder than their average annual minimum. NYC, LGA, JFK, EWR, and ISP are in hardiness zone 7b, with an average annual minimum temperature between 5F and 10F. A cold blast of that magnitude would put us around -10F.
  2. 48 here with breaks of sun. High of 53 so far. 0.96” of rain. Snow is being obliterated, huge sections of grass now visible.
  3. True for Central Park but not at the other official sites. That’s insane. Fahrenheit nor Celsius even matter at that point.
  4. I remember that, my location and ISP only managed to reach +2°F, that’s the lowest temp I’ve seen since I’ve lived here. I believe my official (JFK) lowest is either 0°F or 1°F from when I lived in Queens.
  5. Dallas-Fort Worth will be flirting with lower single digits next week, I’m glad it’s them and not us.
  6. The fact that JFK hasn’t gone below zero since 1985 when it reached its all-time record low of just -2°F, the same record low as Tallahassee, FL, is a stat that has always stood out to me. That -15°F event was highly anomalous, it’d be like reaching 120°F in today’s climate. Personally, I’ve never lived in an area where subzero temps occurred while I was living there.
  7. Not a drop of rain nor a snowflake here.
  8. I always breathe sigh of relief when my measurements match ISP. 6.5” here.
  9. Mine was at 38° when the snow started falling, spent most of the storm around 31.5° as well.
  10. 6.5” final total, still flurrying but the sky is clearing out to the west. Clouds racing south. Variable snow depth due to blizzard. I measured in an area with no previous snowcover. 26.4” for the season so far, running ahead of normal now, I’ve seen enough.
  11. 6” even here. 31/31. Still coming down moderate to heavy. Much prettier storm than the previous one, accumulation is nice and even. Trees and power lines are weighed down though.
  12. Topped out at 49 here, low was 27.
  13. Snowing again right now. Snowing for 4 days straight, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before.
  14. Central Islip. 33 and nothing here now. I can already hear dripping. 10.2” as of a few minutes ago.
  15. I’m a few miles to your south and it’s been at 32 for the past hour or so here. No changeover as of yet.
  16. How are y’all getting decent measurements?! I see grass in some areas and 3 foot drifts in others. 8.7” average as of 3:15, which I realize isn’t accurate. I need to go out and measure again. 31/31.
