  1. I see browning trees as far north as NY-25, all on the south-facing sides, some species more affected than others. I didn’t know salt spray could get that far inland.
  2. They need to just go ahead and build the “Cross Harbor Freight Tunnel” and eliminate the need for so many trucks in the first place.
  3. We could really use any amount of rain here, not holding my breath just yet, everything’s always a miss for LI, but what’s happening near Philly looks interesting.
  4. Seeing quite a few heavily damaged trees that are still standing, it shouldn’t take much to knock them over, whether it be a thunderstorm, another tropical storm or hurricane, a strong front, etc. Just like Sandy and that early season snowstorm shortly after, a tag team of destruction. If Isaias lasted any longer than it did they probably all would’ve fallen.
  5. After being out and about today I really think Isaias may have been more destructive than Irene as far as wind goes. Irene felt much longer in duration and had rain, but the damage seems worse with Isaias, which lasted only a few hours. 1. Sandy 2. Dennis (FL 2005) 3. March 2010 Nor’easter 4. Isais 5. Irene I was inside Dennis while it was a Cat 4, though I wasn’t near the center, not sure what “category” I actually experienced for sure (likely Cat 1-2) but only Sandy (and March 2010 stuck on the GWB) felt that intense, Sandy honestly felt meaner and more unforgiving, but I believe being in NY had something to do with it, FL is much better suited for these things, Sandy also lasted much longer because it was so massive. And I know the March 2010 Nor’easter wasn’t a tropical system, but I always mention it with tropical cyclones because it felt like one. I was stuck on the GWB during March 2010, we literally went through the toll booth as the bridge was closing, one of the last cars to make it. We were on the bridge for close to 30 minutes and the wind was lifting the car off the roadway, on the lower level, in the outermost lane (scary sh*t). I have no clue what the gusts were at 200+ feet above the choppy Hudson River, but they were enough to lift and move a 4000+ pound vehicle and that’s something I’ll never forget.
  6. 454 has some of the lowest gas prices around, roughly similar to Riverhead.
  7. Pressure bottomed out at 1001.0mb at 2:42 pm here. The damage I’ve seen looks about on par with Irene, but (obviously) less than either Sandy or March 2010. Didn’t see nearly as much tree damage as some of the pics in this thread, loads of debris and branches but no downed trees. That severe thunderstorm+microburst last summer must’ve cleared out the weak ones, in addition to Sandy, etc. My job hasn’t had power since before the height of the storm, and no streetlights for most of the way there. Today should be peaceful.
  8. Sky clearing out in one swoop, the whole mass of clouds is just racing away.
  9. The London Plane Trees outside my window are being ripped to shreds, several branches down and a ton of foliage gone. Pines holding up much better, southern trees doing better too.
  10. Yeah, power went out for a minute and cell service went out at the same time. Power and internet are back but cell service still down.
  11. Dry slotted. Only 0.25”. Sunny and windy. I swear this is like living in the desert out here, can’t count on convection, stratiform rains, nor tropical cyclones. I’m gonna go rain dance.
  12. I was outdoors for a few seconds when that band just came in and I look like I was shoved in a pool. Rain/winds just came in like a freight train.
  13. Getting dark here now, I’m currently dragging in the houseplants, one of which already blew over in last night’s thunderstorm. Also, am I the easternmost forum regular? I feel like I’m always the last one to see impacts with most storms.
  14. Getting some gusts now, nothing major yet though. 78/76 with 0.01” from a brief shower. Didn’t see any Tropical Storm Warnings posted on the LIE like with Fay (and every other TS), everything still COVID related. A lot of people seem oblivious to what’s about to happen.
  15. High of 83 today, low of 74. Finally cleared out about an hour ago. Currently 81/78.
