    Our daughter came home from Morehead City to MD to escape the storm. If we weren't so busy right now, I would have gone down there! Keep the obs and webcams coming folks and enjoy!

    Your area got nailed last February too, congrats! How rare are 12-inch snowfalls in back-to-back years there? We've gone 10 years now without one in the DC/Balt region.

    How disruptive would 8-12" be in that area? I can't imagine they have many plows? Our daughter is in Morehead City. Sorry of the off-topic SE forum folks! Hope you get a good storm.

    Man, Norfolk area snow lovers living the good life! They got that 12" storm last Feb and about 17" for the winter which blew away central MD's paltry total last year. Now they're looking at another 8-12" storm. Last weekend's storm here with 6.5 snow then some sleet was the most since 2019, but I wish we could get a 8-12 all snow here.

    This reminds me of the winter of '77 in MD where we got a moderate snow of around 6" with a crust of ice followed by weeks of frigid and dry. The glacier lasted for weeks and January was an incredible -12 departure at DCA, but it lacked in the total snow department.

    Can't believe the Challenger tragedy was 40 years ago today. I remember it so clearly - I was at Florida State and everyone was just stunned silent walking around campus and some crying.

    I measured 6.5 snow and 3.5 sleet which aligns perfectly with official reports of 10.8 from Clarksburg and 9.2 from Germantown on either side of my spot.

    My sister in California, MD says freezing rain there now and a glaze already developing. Nearby temps are 26 at St. Mary's Airport and 28 at Pax River. Not good with lots of precip to go!

    Just think, since sleet has a 3:1 ratio, multiply by 4 if it was powder snow. Dang!

    Yes! It put a pile in front of the garage which my snowblower really choked on. Glad I moved it or we'd have had a big ice speed bump at the entrance of our garage for two weeks LOL

    So far 1.5 sleet (snow was 6.5); depth 7.5 so not compacting too much. Moderate sleet and 19 degrees

    So glad the Baltimore region finally got a big storm after 10 years! I know it's a Nina, but here's to a good old fashioned GulfMex baby coming up the coast as the cold pattern relaxes. Sleet dust (thanks to BobChill for the new p-type term ) and 18 degrees

    It turned to sleet right as I finished clearing my driveway of 6.5" of snow at 9 am, so I'll be able to get a good sleet measurement. Currently 19 with dry sleet

    18 degrees in Germantown with moon and stars visible through thin clouds. We will see if we break the seven-year streak of no 6-plus inch snows here.

    I'm going to be watching closely for the flip to ice so I can leave a little snow on the driveway under the ice so I can scrape it off later. If ice glaze gets on bare driveway with the temps coming up, forget it!

    We are moving from a house with natural gas heat and cheap Potomac Ed electric to one with heat pump only and higher SMECO rates. Winter bills will be ugly! We're doing a pre-final walk-through today - we'll get to see how that heat pump handles 10 F

    I'm amazed by how cold it looks for days and days after this event! Imagine if something pops up in medium range next week like a strong clipper. Or if we get one of those deals where a big system forms as the cold pattern starts to relax.
