Had some good squalls here too. Dropped 0.8" of snow as temperatures warmed from 26 to 36 so its compacting/melting. The solid snow pack continues to be Snowman/snowfort heaven.

My brother who lives in lincoln park chicago for some reason thought he was included in the snowstorm the other day. When we were sending pictures (family group text) he was like wow that's crazy the storm was a dud here. Now today he just sends, "we had more snow today than we had in that storm".

Models stayed steady and the forecast was dead on for January 25th snowstorm, and i said afterward this was well forecast and played out as expected. So I'm sure we will be back to our regularly scheduled model mayhem for the next event. And we are.

Picked up another 0.2" today. A slushy morning but nevertheless beautiful. The conifers have kept their snow but a lot of the snow on other trees fell off. Thump snows for sure. That was what made this a good storm. We had bigger storms and deeper depths the last few years, but that was a prolonged thump for sure!

Finished with 6.2" here. My snowblower constantly clogged because the snow was SO wet. Detroit officially had 6.5". Seems like a general 6-8" in SE MI just as forecast. No complaints at all. The marginal temps were well advertised and it absolutely RIPPED this afternoon.

The scenery is absolutely incredible. Side roads are trashed but obviously the snow is very wet

There's many different ways to rate a storm. In terms of rates, the best rates we've actually seen here in recent years we're on February 4th, 2021 when we saw that in the same band come through and give us nearly 3" in one hour, but the event itself only lasted 3 hours and dropped 4.2". Then of course, a few weeks after that we had an 11" snow storm on the 15th and 16th but it came over the course of 2 days and was a bit drawn out. Last Winter, the much maligned February 2nd and 3rd event came in 2 waves, a very underperforming 6" with wave 1 and 3" with wave 2. Then a few weeks after that we had another storm drop nearly 7". So we've had several different good events but each of them has their own thing to pick apart. With this event, I'd have to say the ratios would be what I pick at but it will be remembered for the consistency of the models and several hours of HEAVY snowfall!

It's beautiful out. Obviously I would have liked better ratios but that was completely expected with this storm. Next several hours should be fun

Oh wow nice. I was just going by whatever the official numbers were. My memory is foggy where the best stuff was, I just remember it was a good storm here, but epic somewhere to my south. Losing 2 feet in a week, that's east coast style lol.

Ah ok. Basically, our "noteworthy" events this season have been Nov 12, Nov 19, Dec 23, Dec 25, Jan 22, plus the usual traces and random dustings. Since none of them were great, I couldnt remember what was what, I just knew the south burbs were "favored". Regarding the pre-Christmas 2004 storm, I think it was Indiana and southwest Kentucky that were slammed? Cincinnati had 9.4", Detroit had 8.9", & Louisville had 7.8".

I know you've had less than DTW but there's no way you've had that little. Officially thru today DTW is 11.1" and CVG 13.3". Fwiw in 2004-05 DTW had 63.8" and CVG 24.3". I looked for the heck of it. Since 1892, Cincinnati beat Detroit 12 times, most recently in 1997-98.

Pretty pic but I actually was mad to see the sun today. I don't care that it's been cloudy 95% of the time this Winter or that more snow is on the way, I just can't stand to see sun melting snow lol.

December and January have been about 92% overcast in Detroit, an extremely impressive number, yet the sun decides to come out randomly on a mild day to try and melt snow ahead of the next snow.

Feb 1965 was definitely a good storm in a fairly boring decade, but I don't get the whole love affair with it from so many people. It dropped 11 to 12" and was fairly long duration. You hear about that more than here about 1974 with almost 20". The 17" storm in 2015 was from a bowling ball type storm though. Maybe that's why those are my favorites.

If it stays on track Monroe & Wayne County could easily see more than 5". We got 3.7" yesterday with a few good bands from a much, much weaker system.
