Apparently canceling my lawn service and not watering my lawn this summer has invited Yellowjackets to build a nest IN my lawn. I unfortunately discovered this when attempting to mow the sparsely grown tan lawn covered in leaves this evening. Apparently I unknowingly mowed right over this Yellowjacket construction site. I first got stung on my elbow. Thought it was a mosquito. Then I got stung THROUGH my t-shirt. Then on my hand. Then again through my shirt. Of course I start doing a weird rendition of a rain dance of some sort. My neighbors clearly think I've lost it. I try to play it cool, all the while being attacked by these invaders. I go inside for safety. One stings me on my hand again, IN the house. I take off my t-shirt. Thinking I'm safe, I go upstairs. A Yellowjacket. I go in my room. A Yellowjacket. They hitched a ride on my clothes? I killed a total of 6 in my house. Thankfully it was easy because they fly to the windows and just crawl around. Easy targets. I think they got them all. Google says to douse them with a mixture of water and dish soap to drowned out the nest. I will also start up the water sprinkler, which needs batteries because I didn't use it all summer. I will let that run until the grass is nice and soaked, which will also drown out the nest. Meanwhile, my lawn is half mowed. lol It will remain that way until I'm sure it's clear. I have a nice credit on my water bill because I didn't water my lawn. I have a few extra gallons to spare.

Didn't we have a drought heading into fall last year? I recall we had like two straight weeks without a single cloud in the sky or something freaky like that.

For these 10% chance of rain days, I sure am getting the 10%. Would have loved for it to rain in the morning or at night. Bad timing.

Oh man. Stay hydrated and dry. I wonder if sweat wicking suits exist.

Absolutely love nights like last night. Rumbles of thunder for hours. Great sleeping weather. I slept for 9 hours. Just one of those nights per week please. This makes up for last year's storm drought.

Thanks. I will use that link. We're both near the NW Branch trail. My house is about a tenth of a mile from it. However, my house is way up on a hill. It would take a biblical flood and the creek would still not reach me. I live just before the creek hits the low lands at University BLVD. I never have to worry about flooding.

Took a ride on the NW Branch trail here in Hyattsville and Riverdale and the streams are already higher than normal. I could see the extent of the flooding from the previous storms. Parts of the trail was washed over with sand and debris. Won't take much to flood again.

Reminds me of the time I had my brand new 1997 VW Jetta GT manual. Parked it at work. Left the sunroof open to keep it cool. HUGE storm rolled in with like an inch of rain in 20 minutes. I got to the car, there was an inch of water int he foot wells. lol. I vacuumed it out and let it air dry. No mildew smell and all the electronics worked. I miss that car.

Right? I was here in the DC area getting tennis practice in with my son who has a match on Friday. We hit the court it's like where did all this wind come from all of a sudden? It was frustrating because the tennis balls and carts, etc were blowing all over the court. It's like I all I asked for was a nice day to practice. The wind wasn't necessary.

My house was squarely in the rain hole. Missed rain to the north and south.

Sure is nice to hear good thunder. Looks like a nice rain train is setting up. Hope to actually hear thunder without being in a fog of sleep.

Just checking in. Was I hallucinating when I saw a huge line of storms and rain this morning on the radar in WV that I expected to experience this afternoon? I checked back and nothing is there. It just went poof?

Sucks that this line lost all the lightening hours ago. That's the fun part. Keep the wind. Give me lightening and thunder.

I know it's still technically winter. But I'm over trying to go outside and play tennis in chilly weather. Please bring the 60s back! Why on why is it 49F? I want the warm period to start NOW.

I give it a B. I loved the cold air and the fact that I could look at snow for more than a few days. Model watching was also fun even though most ended up south or nothing at all. An emotional rollercoaster for sure. Would love to have snow on snow again. Or at least two big ones next winter.
