  1. I'm always glad when it gets dry that our well is 400 feet deep. The only time we've had a problem in the last 24 years was when the pump actually went bad because of other problems with the system. The downside to a deep well is when you have to replace the pump it's a big hassle and big $$. I was up in the western Berkshires this afternoon and coming home I could see the storms down in the Bronx from north of Hillsdale NY, about 100 miles north of them. I was guessing the tops were over 40k and the color was great with cloud to cloud lightning highlighted by the sun setting and turning the clouds pink and purple. Here in eastern/central Putnam and northern Westchester it has also been very dry this month other than Fay and even that wasn't the big numbers seen elsewhere. There was a nice wet period where things stayed soggy for a week or so but it wasn't due to big numbers just persistent wetness. Now the forests have dried out again back to where they were during the mini drought and the fire danger is creeping back up.
  2. It was still 80 here at midnight, that pretty much never happens. The 75 low is also really high for here.
  3. Is it wearing a mask? 75/72 with the morning low of 72.
  4. I'm 5 minutes from KDXR, it's a comfortable 88/62 here with a nice breeze. The shade is much nicer
  5. We touched on 72 dewpoint but it was only 75* at the time and the sun was barely reaching the treetops so it was still reasonable. It's hot now but still sort of ok 90/65.
  6. Wow, you guys are talking about high minimums and here it was one of the nicest mornings in a while. Just beautiful.
  7. I was at Robert Moses today and there's no way the water was 80*. It was nice but it wasn't bathwater. FWIW they do a pretty good job of keeping people separated out there. We went to field 5, got there around 9:30 and it was filling up pretty quick. They have it like at Jones Beach where there are cones in every other spot, there were plenty of people moving cones and they all got tickets. I guess the lots did close for a while but when we left around 1 there were lots of empty spots so if you're into going in the afternoon you should be able to, if it was like that on a hot Saturday it should be good all the time. On the beach itself people were very good about staying apart unlike the hot mess that Misquamicut RI was last week. Heh, my wife and kids went for a walk and found the clothing optional end of the park, I don't think they enjoyed it.
  8. I got a huge .01 over the last 30 or so hours. Looks like LI is getting soaked pretty good this morning.
  9. I got the big .01 for the last 30 or so hours. It's kinda nice right now, cloudy, breezy and in the low 70's.
  10. Yup from ac in the house to ac in the car to ac in the supermarket and back. We spent nearly an hour sitting outside in the shade with my father in law at the assisted living facility he's at and it was pretty unpleasant. He was totally comfortable, didn't even feel the need to wear a jacket! I'm not 94 so I don't understand... My daughter, bless her little 21 year old heart, just went for a road ride a little while ago, I'm sitting next to the garden drinking cold beer
  11. Nope, two at most. It doesn't seem like it has been all that hot, unpleasant enough to keep me from doing some stuff yes but not as brutal as it could have been. I think if the pseudo drought had continued and things really dried out it would be a different story and we'd be seeing crazy high temps. I think I'd almost rather it be dry though as the humidity is a killer when you want to do outside things.
  12. Stuffy doesn't quite describe the air this morning, 73/72 and dense clouds with no air movement make for somewhat less than pleasant conditions for doing anything outside. I got .2" in the end of day rain yesterday so everything is soaked down making for a happy garden but not conducive to doing active outdoor things.
  13. Next two days don't look like beach days.
  14. I'm assuming this is afternoon convection? What about the south shore LI beaches, can I get a nice enough Thursday morning to make it worth a 90 minute drive?
  15. Yup it has to be a full cage. I'm not prepared for that. Yet. It's just such a bummer to throw all that time and a bunch of money at it and then see something else eat it. I'm gonna keep plugging away and keep planting until I run out of time. I have a ton of seeds left so I'm going for it. It seems like I have plenty of time on my hands as my industry is literally selling out of products so I'm running out of things to sell and have no real reason to be on the road this year. Of course, im not earning squat either which pretty much sucks.
  16. Hyakutake was amazing. In 1996 my girlfriend (now wife) and I drove here from CO at the end of March and for 3 nights it was huge across the windshield. When we went over one of the Continental Divide passes it was -40*F and crystally clear and that thing was just incredible. The next night in central NE on US Rt 34/36 where it's about as dark as dark can be was another incredible experience.
  17. Damned critters are getting more benefit out of my garden now than I am. Yesterday I lost about 40 melons, they even ate most of the female flowers that had just been pollinated and had small fruits started. The previous two days they'd ripped open the corn stalks and devoured the cobs forming inside the stalks and this morning almost all of the second plantings were dug up. I'm so bummed, hundreds of hours are being destroyed and I can't seem to stop it. Last night I fell asleep in a pile of sweat sitting on the patio with a pellet gun in my hand and almost popped myself in the foot.
  18. And the AC in my car is spewing water all over the floor so I can't use it for more than a minute or two at a time. PITA getting up under the dashboard in a sports car
  19. 93 here on my hill with a station near town at 97. I've been sitting outside in the shade for a few hours and it's not bad, mid 80's, but the air is heavy and oppressive.
  20. That's the plan. Now I just need to figure out where it's actually dark enough.
