No rain showers here yesterday. A bit cloudy at times and coolish when the wind blew but not bad. Sunnier, warmer and less breezy today. Remembering all those who gave their life for our country this Memorial Day. My great uncle Rudolph DeCanio, CPL U.S. Marines, 19yo. WWII, killed in action on Iwo Jima.

Honestly these cool overnights could continue through Labor Day and I'd be happy. Perfect sleeping weather. Windows open with a blanket or two. Just perfect. No a/c needed.

There was briefly heavy rain with pretty gusty winds as they raced through here.
-
Very few breaks of sun here this afternoon. Had several rounds of brief but heavy showers. Improving weather for the 3 day holiday weekend.

Event totals. SNE clear winner. Some spot 5"+ amounts south of BOS to MVY. Max I see is just over 7" SSE of BOS. Click to zoom

Received .29" last 24 hours with an event total of 1.41". Thankfully surface and upper level feature are lifting away so the weekend will be coolish but dry. If timing was a little different we could have had clouds, cold and damp with rain for at least 2 of the 3 days. Not perfect weather for Memorial Day weekend coming up but it could have been a total washout so we should consider ourselves lucky.

Event total here so far 1.12" with 7.22" on the month. No complaints. Breezy, chilly, damp and raw last 24 hours. Temperatures mainly in the mid 40's here over the last 24 hours. Heat on for 30 minutes this morning to wipe out the overnight chill. Still slept with the windows cracked open and the blankets up. Again, no complaints. As posted above by @MorristownWxthe Drought Monitor is significantly better. This current rain was not event was not even factored in. Possible NNJ is wiped clean by the end of the month. SNJ a little more in question.

Upstairs and down currently reading 65 and 64 respectfully. Did turn the heat on for about 30 minutes this morning only because we left a few windows open a bit overnight and it was chilly. Gotta let the cool air in! Bedroom windows open about an inch. That's what blankets and flannel sheets are for.

Just great weather (a bit windy) last few days. Low was 41 here this morning. Great sleeping with the windows open and the blankets up! Not going to go on much longer so I'm enjoying it while it's here. The muggy and sultry weather will be here soon enough. Meanwhile everyday without it is one less day we have to deal with it.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14723605/Brooklyn-Bridge-hit-boat-jaw-dropping-footage-shocked-onlookers-watch-pier.html Happened about 24 hours ago. Not sure why just being reported now. Ship was too tall it seems.

Same here with the wind. Had a few drops of rain but the wind went from near calm to I'd estimate gusting to 40 mph for about 90 seconds. Trees bending and lots of leaf debris. Back to near calm within 5 minutes.

Wow, had no idea Gypsy Moths were so active on L.I. Agree with your list of biggest threats. Especially Ash borer and Asian Longhorn, they have been a problem for a while and really show no sign of easing up anytime soon. Big problem with those two.
-
This is ongoing now or in the past? If Walt had not posted I would not have known they were active anywhere in the area. Hope it does not get out of hand here in Jersey. The spotted lantern fly was a bit of a problem Summer of 2023 but just saw a handful last Summer so hopefully that problem is over? Have not heard much on them either.

Worse is when you hear the poop falling like rain through the trees. I remember once back in late 70's or early 80's there was near total defoliation of trees especially oaks. Just disgusting critters. Nothing here in my area and I'm not that far away from you and I hope it can stay that way.
-
Nothing here but picked up .81" yesterday. Total for May to date = 6.10" with additional 1-2" rains coming up mid to late week. Drought conditions fading fast. Sharp clearing line now moving in from the west.
-
Same here. Did not check gauge but looks like about .40" here. Few rumbles of thunder and hardly a puff of wind. Main show was moderate to some heavy rain. Skies brightening now.
-
Meanwhile CNJ is drench warfare. Serious training all morning. Going to be some BIG two day totals coming out of that area.
-
Received .77" last 24 hours (8am-8am) with a 2 day total of .81". Still periods of light to sometimes moderate rain ongoing. Doing well with rainfall so far this month. It could back off for a bit now.

Received .40" snowfall with a morning low temperature of 26 degrees. I was at a funeral down in Trenton in 1977. I was a young teenager and I remember standing at the cemetery mid morning with a cold wind and a snow squall going on. Horrible day I try not to remember but can never forget.

On this day back in 2020.
