    Based on reports and on current radar this is shaping up to be an impressive win for the HRRR, it was so consistent with putting heavy snow and decent accumulations up 85 to Hickory and points East. I’ll give it props on this one!

    This system will be a good one to really show if the HRRR is as bad as we think it is with winter storms. I’m still not excited for this for the Piedmont/Hickory area. We’ve seen decent snow and 34 degrees a few times this years and it equated to nothing. Hope I’m wrong but the temps don’t have me excited. I think we will be lucky to get another trace with 1-2” in the immediate foothills.

    I believe it was showing a major ice storm for I-40 corridor less than 12 hours out with last system and we had 34 and rain all day. That left a pretty bad taste in my mouth for the RGEM

    I’d say this is closer to reality especially for Piedmont and foothills. We’ll be lucky to see another dusting and if we do it’ll be gone within a few hours. After the way things have gone all winter I just can’t get excited for any model run. Depressing

    Saw a few flurries under those radar returns last night after 10pm here in SE Caldwell County. Was hoping for more given the returns. Looks like we may have another shot at some more flurries today with more returns breaking containment.

    Just like I suspected 33 and rain in Hickory. Sad stuff.

    Temp steady at 33, the dusting from earlier is gone. Looking like 33 and rain overnight. Weather apps have done a great job nailing the temps here. NWS forecasts aren’t looking good for NW Piedmont.

    Dusting here in Hickory (Caldwell County side), nothing on the roads. Looks like we are on the very tail end too. Might be all the wrote in regards to snow on this one.

    Not sure what model/models WeatherUnderground uses for their hourly forecast but they don’t have Hickory getting below 34 tonight. Little concerning on how we’ll get any ZR accrual with that. I know it’s an app but the models are clearly not impressed with surface temps in this area and the temp forecasts are typically pretty spot on. These borderline events never pan out.

    Brad P isn’t feeling it especially for the foothills. I’m not feeling this setup either and think the models are way overdone.

    They pulled the trigger, the gun fired, and it scared them so they put the gun back in the holster until they know they have to shoot again. To be honest none of their maps have looked right to me for the storm they have basically had Charlotte getting more snow than some of the mountain areas

    I was making a jab at a guy that use to be on the forums several years “WilkesboroDude” that got the boot for being a drama queen and he’s known for saying the skies hadn’t healed enough to get a lot of precip.

    Skies have not healed enough from all the rain this year for WilkesboroDude to get that much snow, toss it!

    Plus it doesn’t make sense in the mtns provided what models have been showing.

    Being in the mtns I really like that number 93, especially with a 19 in front of it.

    Eyewall has really tightened up, looks perfect on radar now. Notice I’m just west of Wilmington. Power went out about 2 hours ago. Getting some very powerful gusts.

    It came a hell of a thunder storm last night around 230am. Hellacious thunder and it absolutely poured. I’m on my way to Leland NC to ride out the storm. It’s about 20 min west of Wilmington .

    I swear the models get worse and worse every year. So far we’ve had a non existent storm become a storm with 48 hours and we’ve had a massive parade of storms at 7-10 days become non existent storms. Really pisses you off. .

    Boy what an over producer for WNC. Looks like a conveyor belt of never ending snow on the radar. Can’t remember seeing a radar look so good down stream. The orientation of the moisture is perfect where typically it’s too much west to east movement. .

    Man I really feel for South Charlotte up to Raleigh and points south and east, those folks be like… It'll miss to the south they said, We may get some light snow they said, Temps won't be an issue they said, No way it trends that far NW they said, You're going to jackpot they said, The NAM is just being the NAM they said, JB is an idiot they said, You'll only lose a little bit to rain they said, The sleet will changeover really quick they said, Just wait they said, We told you it would trend NW they said, Just stop modeling watching they said, We live in the SE what did you expect they said.
