  1. That’s crazy! I’m in southern Caldwell east of 321 and I’m at 34.2/26.7
  2. Down to 35.2/25 WB: 31 Winds have been out of the WSW
  3. Was down to 36.5 in lower Caldwell around 7pm but have risen to 38.5/24 in the last 25 minutes
  4. Well we were dropping pretty well, were down to 36.5 but have risen nearly 2 degrees in the last 20 minutes.
  5. Temp is dropping decently in southern Caldwell but the dew points are making a noticeable incline.
  6. 44 here in Hickory. Not feeling it for this area. 31.9 degree rain won’t cut it. The trend for this winter will continue for foothills.
  7. Must be nice, up to 41 here in southern Caldwell. Not too optimistic on this one. 31.5+ and rain won’t add up to much here. Hope I’m wrong and warmer trends are wrong. https://tempestwx.com/station/41819/grid
  8. Just got a Tempest weather station here in southern Caldwell County. Excited to see the details with this borderline ice event tomorrow. Y’all can check it out here, https://tempestwx.com/station/41819/grid
  9. It was spot on with the placement of the heaviest precipitation but not so much the totals. I don’t put much faith into its ZR maps.
  10. Not surprised, like clockwork and has been the story the this entire winter. Everyone should be prepared for power outages because that would be too dangerous to go conservative with it being this close but personally I don’t see anything more than a nuisance event for the foothills. I do want the ice however.
  11. Yeah I don’t get people like that. Great term for them though lol!
  12. Have a generator but before I did I also enjoyed being without power for a few days, something about no power from weather events is exiting.
  13. I’d love to see .5 of freezing rain here in Hickory but I just don’t see it happening. All the models have over done every single winter event this season here. I see us getting a couple hours of 31 degree freezing rain then the rest of the storm 32-33 degree rain. I think we’ll be lucky to even see .1 in the Catawba, lower Caldwell, lower Burke, Alexander county areas. Looks to be a much better change along the border counties with temps around 30 much of the event. I think the trend of model accumulation/accrual maps over hyping storms in this area continues.
  14. Good lord, this guy should stop making maps for anyone outside of VA. It’s downright pathetic
  15. Typical 33 and moderate rain here in Hickory. Perfect WWA conditions....sigh
  16. I love WWA for 33 and rain, they are so fun. 33 and rain is so damn easy to predict around here, who needs weather models when it’s so automatic? Ughhhh
  17. So over this shit hole winter. The models have been absolute trash for anything over 6 days. We had widespread agreement on cold and winter weather and both kept getting pushed back until they are just non existent Unreal. Bring on a nice cool Spring.
  18. Only thing I can think is a lot of these measurements were taken after some melting had occurred. My cameras showed a big loss in totals in a short window in the middle of the night.
  19. Pic at 4:11am quite a bit had melted
  20. Looking at our cameras in southern Caldwell we had the most on the ground around 12:30am where it looked like 2-3” with roads solid white. It was a constant melt fest from there on even with snow falling. By 4am roads were clear and it looked like 1-2” on grass/vehicle. All gone by noon. In summary, the HRRR nailed the best orientation of the heaviest precipitation. Was high on kuchera maps and didn’t factor in the melting too well but I’m pleasantly surprised with its performance. Pics at 12:15am
  21. Based on reports and on current radar this is shaping up to be an impressive win for the HRRR, it was so consistent with putting heavy snow and decent accumulations up 85 to Hickory and points East. I’ll give it props on this one!
  22. This system will be a good one to really show if the HRRR is as bad as we think it is with winter storms. I’m still not excited for this for the Piedmont/Hickory area. We’ve seen decent snow and 34 degrees a few times this years and it equated to nothing. Hope I’m wrong but the temps don’t have me excited. I think we will be lucky to get another trace with 1-2” in the immediate foothills.
