Wow, that's pretty far away, relatively speaking.

Just wondering if my Columbia, Md. and vicinity brethren were startled around 8am Sunday, Aug 25th by a house-rattling explosion. It shook our house considerably and then it was over. Could've been anything from a transformer .... to an earthquake (just about the only house-rattling sounds I've experienced) to something crashing into the ground in the area. I went outside right after it happened and I saw some neighbors way up the street also outside, so it must've been heard in a fairly wide area, at least around east part of Columbia.

I was watching the lightning show from Columbia on Saturday evening, 9:00ish. It was flashing at a quick rate off to my W & SW, but storm traveled SE-ward toward N-ern part of DC. Nothing more here than a distant light show. Temps in MBY ranged from 78 to 96 on Saturday. Sunday morning low as of 6am is 79, pretty toasty for the 'burbs.

A little cell popped up to my south over the Fairland area on Tues evening about 8:00. Reached MBY on east side of Columbia just before 9:00. 15 mins of ground-watering rain, about 1/10". But a great lightning sky show as the storm verrrry slowly moved NE/ENE-ward from Laurel. It looked like the most intense part of the cell went over Laurel, Ft. Meade, Jessup and Savage .... and eventually MBY got clipped as a small "arm" from the cell grew NW-ward to over my 'hood from the main cell. It would not surprise me if the west side of Columbia and Ellicott City saw nada.

Best storm in years IMBY in terms of wind + rain. Started with a bit of T&L but then just pouring sheets of rain for a solid 30 minutes and quite windy for a solid 10-15 mins (it felt longer). Tropical storm-like during the 10-15 mins of strong winds. About 3/4"-1" rain. Temp dropped from 84 to 71 during storm.

Yeah, saw that. I just hadn't seen the Twitter map online anywhere. Just curious.

Is this map (daily?) online anywhere else other than NWS Twitter feeds?

1.69" rain IMBY for this event so far, compared to 1.74" at BWI for the entire day 3/21. DCA 1.96" for 3/21 but IAD 2.69". 3/21 hi temp was 48 IMBY. 3/22 low temp midnite to 6am today was 40, but temp back up to 41 at 6am. Looks like an active day today!

Temp has recently fallen from 48 to 45 with heavy rain band moving thru.

Have only measured 1.3" here so far and 3/10" of that has been in past 1/2 hour. Got a new rain gauge so maybe it's not so accurate (?), or maybe am just in the dead zone for this system.

1 lightning flash and 1 brief rumble. Temp has fallen about 10 degrees to 56 as front moves thru with brief hvy rain. .09” so far but it seems to be moving east and away now.

Down to 34.7. It's wet but closing in on a bona fide dusting, not quite a full-fledged coating yet. Some pine trees are holding a little snow now.

Temp has fallen 0.7 degrees in last 30 mins to 35.3. Slight whitening of just some grassy areas. Deck has minor white pock mark stickage.

Steady wet snow past hour, 36 degrees. Some stickage on mulch, flakes trying to stick a bit on deck. Roads and sidewalks obviously just wet.

I'm in Culebra, Puerto Rico (an island east of mainland) a few more days -- 75 at 7am AST, 81 in afternoons. Fresh east wind 15mph+ all day. Sunny. Probably will have a big storm since I'm missing it.

When you consider we didn't even get the main storm but rather the WAA out ahead of it, I can't complain about approx 5" while the main storm went to the Lakes. We can thank the strong HP (strategically positioned) to the north for that. This was an energetic, spring-like system, with plenty of GulfMex juice. While I noticed temps rose toward the end of the snow, the temp has remained quite steady around 30.6 for the past few hours. Just a bit of sleet IMBY as the snow slowly fizzled.

12:30pm 30.1° (up 1° in last hour) Light snow/sleet approx 4-3/4"

Temp up from morning low of 27.5 a few hours ago .... to current 29.0. Snow has hung on very nicely all morning, with only a few times having a "sleet-y look". Going out to shovel now .... and to measure. Eyeballing 3.5"-4", maybe a touch more.

Left house at 8am w/approx 1" OTG, roads covered, mod snow and temp at 31.3 (down from high of 31.7) Got home 9:15am, approx 3"-3.5" OTG now; steady, mod snow, temp fell to 27.9. Driving sucks but is certainly doable altho am not recommending it. Route 108, a local main road, is covered with a few inches.

Like everyone else, rates picked up quickly. Immediate stickage on deck, cars. Looks like sidewalks and my side street not far behind. Mod-hvy snow, small flakes, 31.5°

Does anyone have a link for 3-hr US air pressure changes? It looks like the Unisys weather maps are .... no longer.
