I cant remember the last time before May 2020 that we had a T of snow in May. And if we do get a T of snow in October, that'll be the first time since 2011 I think? 2014-15 feels like an underrated winter, because that was excellent for both snow and cold in the second half. March 2018 was a lot better at ISP than it was in NYC (and western Nassau for that matter). Wow, ISP had 16" of snow in the April 1982 blizzard- or was that a combo of two storms? If it was just from the blizzard, they doubled our totals on Western Long Island- I wonder why? Everyone was cold enough for a lot of snow.

Looks like the Poconos are a good place to be if you want to see 1-2 inches of snow ;-)

Walt, it seems that NYC and Long Island are part of the cone? But this will be a remnant and not a tropical system once it gets up here right? They have 40 mph sustained winds (which would imply a TS) all the way to the east coast, but I suspect it'll already be absorbed by the mid-latitude system once it gets here?

In states like Texas, more people are now employed by the renewable industry than are employed by the fossil fuel cartels. And why not? The green energy jobs pay more, they are the fastest growing segment of the job market and they dont pollute the environment or people's health. What's not to love?

3-4" of rain on Friday? (any wind potential there?) and then mid 30s for lows over the weekend, followed by a big warm up next week? Are we looking at 70s with sunshine?

Not yet but I am a big fan of weather histories, specifically 1600s-1800s. Where did you obtain it? Yes, I find 30 years to be very arbitrary, I would expand it to 1950 and beyond as that is when most airport stations came "on line." So if you compare the last 60-70 years let's say, you'll be dealing with a similar time frame across most official locations that report weather data..

Indeed! One thing that I am starting to see again that is similar to last winter already is that it is warmer farther north.....because of more sunshine? High was 69 at Allentown yesterday with fog while it was 75 at Scranton. I also heard it was in the 70s up in Vermont? I wonder if this is a general pattern that will continue going forward. If you look at temperature departures at least in the northeast, the warm anomalies increase as you go north. It's almost like the furnace that is the Arctic has a fire burning up there that is now spreading southward. It's also logical that the center north of the country and the Mountain west would be the last hold outs to widespread warmth because they are the farthest away from the oceans and the oceans are heat sinks that absorb carbon most quickly (becoming acidic in the process and destroying coral reefs.) Being away from the influence of ocean heat sinks is also why Antarctica is not warming as quickly as the Arctic, although that may be in the process of changing now.

I know like last year, we sometimes get rain during January thaws, but it's rare to have a night full of fog like this.

Lee Goldberg keeps saying something which I think is incorrect. He keeps saying that the hurricane is "holding back the front to our west." Hurricanes dont do this, if anything, it's fronts that push hurricanes around (we see this all the time.) It's the WAR which is holding up the front, not the hurricane.

I like hot in the summer, not humid. Hard to breathe air that's thick with water. My ideal weather is highs in the mid to upper 70s lows in the mid to upper 50s, with clear blue skies, light winds and low humidity, but in the summer I dont mind temps around 100 as long as the humidity is low. Last year when we hit 95 here with low humidity in early October it was amazing.
