May 2024 Discussion - Welcome to Severe Season!!!!
rclab replied to weatherwiz's topic in New England
Anthony it’s been 12,000 years since our south Brooklyn area was akin to the present coast of Greenland. I read an article about a Dad in North Florida. He bought a snow maker so that he can give his and the neighborhood children the experience of snow falling. He waits for that rare day when the temperature drops into the upper 20’s and creates a mini blizzard for the children.(first photo below) Perhaps our own city could do the same in public parks. Sadly the natural variety will only get rarer as the years pass. I will enjoy the very few days my postage stamp is dressed in frozen white. Stay well, as always …… -

If dementia is delayed in me I will have to give most of the credit to the weather forum. Thank you Liberty and many other members whom by their posts have sent me on searches, so I can attempt to understand what the hades they are talking about. My latest adventure was tree sexuality. (Please no woodpecker or knothole replies). I was introduced to the terms Monoecious and Dioecious. It was fascinating to find out that my ever bearing oak, from the beginning till the acorn hits the ground, (or me) is Monoecious. If you have a cotton wood or red/silver maples, they are Dioecious. (Male tree or female tree). Damned if I know how you’d tell the difference when it’s a sapling. Below are photos of my all in one oak and my what ever it is maple. Thank you Liberty and others because it is thought provoking posts that will keep me thinking/searching, so that in the days/months/years ahead I can still find my own way home. Stay well all, as always ….

Good evening CW and thank you for your continued civility. Perhaps the question/discussion should be how/how fast are we, as a species, affecting the cyclical change of the climate. Stay well and have a good night, as always …

Good morning Anthony. My mercury special, at 09:50, under the overcast, pretty much matches the Park. Stay well, as always ….

We may need a crises intervention team. Anthony posted “Pizza is gross in Rhode Island” … in the New England sub forum. As always, ….. -
This Italian sourced Connecticut seafood pie looks good. As for … (Wtf) … that’s forky’s under the bridge training meal. It’s also, on occasion, offered to special guests. Buon Appetito, as always …

Good morning everyone after reading through the enjoyably posts and checking my over half century old mercury thermometer at 07:52, I decided to listen to an old S and G favorite. I may move on to a refrain from ‘Annie’ next. Stay well, as always …. -

Good morning S19. It reminds me of the lyrics from ‘Both Sides Now’: I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now … from up and down and still somehow … its clouds illusions I recall … I really don’t know clouds at all’. As always ….. -

I could never have the courage, easily shown by DIT, to spar with the professionals and well versed hobbyists. Of course, as per Tips comment, “it’s all fun”. As always ….

Good morning gravity. From what I’ve learned, just reading on the sub forums, the drops in temperature, as you get close to the warm season, have a lot to do with radiational cooling. My postage stamp surrounded by brick, concrete and asphalt rarely has such drops. Today my state of the, half century ago, art thermometer registered close to 50 in the shade at 8:15. Central park was 48 at 07:51. The cooler mornings may well be a blessing in the months to come. Stay well, as always ….

Good morning BW. Thank you for the warmer than forecast minimum temperature explanation. I initially thought the Park was working its magic again. Stay well, as always ….

I agree with Rob, perhaps not for the same reasons. The fact that you’re still with us is a testament to the loving patience of your parents, specifically when dealing with young creative intelligence. I pray you and your sister are close, perhaps she should write the book. I was going to try and tie the magnet anecdote with your posting style but thought better of it. (That doesn’t mean Will won’t try). I enjoyed the post of your memories and will purchase/read the biography when it’s published. As always … -
Good morning CW, Dendrite. I never knew Doctor Dolittle had a dark side. Stay well whichever side of the front you’re on. As always ….
