  7. Our weather seems to be akin to politics; with the extremes holding sway while the middle ground remains absent or invisible. As always ...
  8. This forum has been quite the lager education for me. Makes me think back to my younger days in the fifties and wonder what Bert and Harry would have thought about all of this. As always ....

  10. In the years to come at the March solstice and after a warm rainy winter season we can all join ( at proper distance ) around the fire pit and belt out the song “Tradition” from Fiddler On The Roof”. The blazing fire pit will be welcome as we greet the cold rainy spring. As always....... ( Don’t bother reporting this post, fellow members, I’ll probably self request R Jay and BX to be banned )
  11. Unc., thanks for the memory. I was.an almost 17 year old Junior, going to Fort Hamilton High School. I remember a couple of the ne’er do wells myself included would, on warm spring days, leave school during lunch.(going back was optional) and head for the 92bd Street belt parkway walk over. From that vantage point you had a great view of the skyline north and the under construction Verrazano Bridge south. We thought, as Sinatra would sing, that we had the world on a string. I’ll leave it to you to imagine where that string, now a rope, nearly ended up, “ Days of Innocence days of Confidences” as always ....
  12. How wonderful! Your father is blessed and must be a present day version of Old Hickory. I hope I’m around to hit the like button when you happily announce his 100th birthday. As always ....
  13. Unc, when your finished with the trains and decide to do some autobiographical writing; I would suggest the following title. “Anecdotes In The Life Of a Pro Weenie Weather Enthusiast” please reserve an autographed copy for me. It will be well worth the money. As always ...
  14. The top line of Umc’s post referred to a January 1965 sleet storm. That the year I was a freshman. Looking now the wY I do you’re point is well taken. As always .....
  15. Well done. Not sure how I would feed a sparrow. She seems to have done well and adapted to her domestic habitat. Frankly I’ve never known anyone to have the success you have had with an indigenous species. She probably doesn’t miss the company of her fellows as both of you have become that for her. Sadly yesterday what looks like a long billed shore bird hit the back parlor floor window of my row house. The poor fellow was dead on impact. It was the first time in 45 years living there that I experienced that. He must have been lost or pursued because he hit the widow at high speed, as always .......
  16. I didn’t even know that was possible. Did you rescue it? How did it adapt to inside? Do you cage it? Sorry for all the questions. As always ......
  17. Still worth the mention. My parents had several mating budgies when I was young. They are a challenge but a lot o fun when tame. One used to take rides on my collies back. As always ....
  18. Wonderful picture. It made the day worth it. That great looking Calico has a lot of fine feathered friends or he/she is guarding the pantry. Thank you again for a signature photo. As always ....

  20. I was a freshman in KingsBorough Community at the time, The shoveling which my fathers rightfully and happily delegated to me is also a treasured memory. I remember thinking, at the time; imagine if this was all snow. As always .....
  21. From a position of ignorance but curious; is the North Atlantic cold pool due to Greenland ice melt? As always .....
  22. Don, with many, the dawn approaches slowly, the light inexorably routs the darkness. None can hold it back. As always ....
  23. Totally agree. The two largest nations mentioned know exactly what’s in their best interest, long term, economically. With the two smaller ones there is a tendency for the desperation butter to slide off the noodles. We shall see. As always ....
  24. With all due respect, so have you, S19. And yes, we all know how that’s worked out. Enough salt was spread early in the season to keep our wounds fresh in our memory, even now. The joy and anticipation of a possible snow event regardless of the improbability is a a testament to those, like Anthony, who will stand against the odds and dare to hope. My belated sympathies for the loss of your feline friend. I lost my little buddy just days after your loss. I put the little fellow to rest in a quiet corner of my back yard. I wouldn’t mind seeing, even though the probabilities are small, that ground covered briefly in white before the season ends completely. As always ......
  25. Marx was a good alternative and indeed, sets from our youth are valuable to collectors. The desire for a set of electric trains by our generation has been replaced by a desire for much different devices today. I remember my first daisy air rifle. In today’s reality that would probably be a Social Services issue. As always.
