On my block in historic Cobble Hill ( some of us old timers still refer to it as postal zip 10031, Red Hook) a row house ( I don’t refer to them as federal brownstones ) was sold for over six million. A smaller building at the end of the block went clearance last year at 2.3 million. The new owners then gut the place and put in as much or more than they paid for it. All that and you still have no parking. The area seems to attract celebrities. My daughters tell me about the famous who live on, near and around. I know the nice folks in the Kane Street Synagogue next to me and the fine family on the other side. I have a nodding acquaintance with folks up and down the block, other than that I am happy to preserve their anonymity, as I am my own. Anthony, Uncle is right, in 112 neighborhoods where the base row house price is seven figures, I still wouldn’t be comfortable walking at night unless I was dressed in your work clothes. As always ....

The neophyte hoarder begins by filling all the invisible places available. Drawers, closets, cellar, attic, garage. When all the spaces fill the invisible becomes visible and the twisted taffy of rationalization takes over. Everything is indispensable. The hoarder needs it all and cannot live without any of it. Eventually as the hoarder moves within the created canyons of indispensability, one column may collapse or an errant spark may take hold. The hoarder is gone and the space occupied is forever changed. As always ....

Presently sleeting/pinging. I relived my youth by going out front and eyeballed the street light, cutting the glare with the sycamore branches, sleet, rain, could be some flakes but that’s probably more a wish than an observation. My 40 year old clock face dial unscientific and just as reliable thermometer was at 38 degrees. As always....

Absolutely agree for S/NNE. No better place during meteorological winter to experience Currier and Ives. Tip with his pants off in a closed car is something else, although there could be a book, movie or reality show deal somewhere in there. As always.

In the future you can buy a retirement place in the NNE and become reverse snow birds. I would prefer coastal Maine to be near my beloved ocean. When the coldest snowiest weather occurs go out to the park and make snow angels. Afterwards keep your partner close and warm. Those benefits to the cold and snow are difficult to improve on no matter how long your married. As always ......

I was a freshman at Brooklyn Technical HS. From what I remember the 707 and the prop plane clipped one another over the Narrows. The prop crashed on Staten Island. Much less pre bridge population. The teachers were all in the halls with the news. Ours came back and gave us an update. I guess it could have been even worse considering the number of schools in the area. Not sure if that was the same year as the aircraft carrier Constellation fire. Again during a snow event. I remember watching my small B&W tv as John Tillman described the scene at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I think he was with ABC news. Sad month for Brooklyn and SI but memories just the same.

Some of the songs I remember had themes that pertained to the youth issues of that time, I remember The leader of the pack,, I fought the law, ( not sure if that was the title or a refrain ) and the Eberly Brothers Wake up a little Suzy. For deeper messaged poetic songs, Simon aped Garfunkel were my favorites. I believe Eve Of Destruction was banned for a time. As always ...

My postage stamp UHI yard in the Hill/Hook has gone from wet to white to wet to white to wet to now white. It sort of like our NY Metro forum thread with at 69 foot model output tug of war between S88 and S19. As always ......

One of my favorites also. I liked lite message songs live smoke gets in your eyes, Tom Dooley, Leslie Gores, Downtown.. Manhattan Spiritual was a great wordless piece. Some of the radio MC’sin theearly sixties had good voices. HOA, Herb Oscar Anderson had a wonderful voice. Scott Muni also, I recall. As always ....

At that time I remember a the Fugazy Cadillac dealer had some kind of contest with a substantial award if the storm snow total went over 20 inches. I remember the initial measurement zoo folk coming in, conveniently a little under 20 inches. I didn’t know a dry slot from a wet slot ( no snickering youngsters ). I just remember that my let it snow 24 inch upright measure board completely disappeared in my postage stamp back yard. “ Those were the days my friends, we thought they’d never end”. As always ......

There was a weather lady that would play the ukulele at the end of the forecast. I can’t remember her name. She may have been the one that Tex married.Tex would drop snippets of his upcoming marriage even to the point of saying they were going to Greece for the honeymoon. I believe the news anchor at that time was Roger Grimsby. As always ......

I only remember him complimenting Wethafella back then, he said he was the finest weather hobbyist he ever encountered. A very true statement and a rare DT compliment. As always .....

Could not agree more. It why in my UHI inner city area I never listen to early frost reports. In my area frost, even on cars, is as rare as an accurate snow measurement in CPK. As always ....

I still can’t figure out how to post a photo even in these easy days. IR17 can you imagine how some of the present generation of posters would have faired on the forums back then. As always .....
