  1. Great photos. A rain/snow mix here on the other side of town, 35 degrees.
  2. Light snow but big flakes here, just starting to stick to pavement.
  3. Here near the bottom of the valley, it just reached 20. Going to bust the forecast by 15 degrees.
  4. I don't know what the wind direction was last night, but of note are those warmer readings south of Fall Branch, in what would be the downslope off Chimney Top.
  5. 0 at my house in the warmest microclimate around Kingsport. It probably hasn't been this cold here since 2014 or 2015, when the camellias were defoliated.
  6. Hardest snow of the event right now, at least during daylight. Up to 6".
  7. I'm on the southeast side of Kingsport, and just eyeballing it looks like 4", still snowing.
  8. There is about 3/4 inch on grassy and elevated surfaces imby, but until a few minutes ago nothing on concrete. Now the flake size has increased and it's sticking everywhere. Temp 28 dp 22.
  9. 30 here in Kingsport. The rain has slacked off in the past few minutes to just a light drizzle. When it was raining harder, I could hear water flowing through the gutters, and just checked and see no icicles forming. Fingers crossed.
  10. So this is not an error! 8am Knox airport obs: KNOXVILLE HAIL 29 11 47 N12 30.39R WCI 19
  11. For the Friday "forerunner" system, the 18z NAM moves the snow about 150 miles west-southwest, and increases the totals a bit over 12z. Maybe one should prep for the big one Thursday instead of Friday?
  12. At 186z, New England is pretty much blown off the map!
  13. Hibiscus syriacus, aka rose-of-sharon
  14. It is closer to Maryville. The terminal is 3.5 miles to downtown Maryville and 11.5 miles to downtown Knoxville.
  15. Strongest radar returns in the area are over me right now, and at the ground it's a steady light sleet. Temp 29 dp 21.
  16. Mixed snow and sleet in Kingsport, temp 30 dp 15.
  17. Trying to flurry in Kingsport, but warm air winning the battle (temp 40).
  18. i just drove from SC to Kingsport via I-77 and I-81. Otherwise than an issue in Charlotte, I had no problems and the traffic wasn't bad. At Statesville, sign boards say I-40 is closed except for emergency vehicles west of I-77, but cars were exiting that way. "All roads in western NC are closed" is on multiple signboards on I-81.
  19. Currently running NAM has 1.8" at Johnson City at 4am, 11.0" at 7am. Do the math - that's some serious snowfall rates.
  20. Here too on the northwest side of Indy. Visibility has dropped - there is a building 400 yards away that is now pretty much invisible, I don't know if due to fog or snow.
