  1. I see 12z GFS and CMC give us a quarter to half inch Sunday night. Let's hope that's correct. Unbelievable how dry it is out there. Just walking on the yard causes dust to fly. Never seen anything like this.
  2. I picked another good batch of pole lima beans yesterday. Nice to have this extended growing season, but of course it will be ending soon. We've had a few close calls, and it looks like another one Saturday night with the temp getting close to 32 here. Maybe it's going to end Saturday night, but if not it won't last too much longer with the cooler pattern in the long range. Monday looks like a warm day, but after that it's going to feel a lot more like November.
  3. 82 here right now. Feels like summer.
  4. 78 degrees here. I was just outside doing leaf cleanup before I leave for bow hunting, and it felt like I was working in early September out there instead of early November. All sweated up. Crazy. Leaves have been really coming down quickly too. It was a nice fall foliage season, but a short one due to the drought. A lot of bare trees already. At least we're gonna have a nice cool weekend before the next torch next week. 80 degrees again Tuesday and Wednesday.
  5. Already up to 81 here. Gonna hit 83 or 84. Crazy. I'll go outside to water the vegetable garden and pretend that it's August. It feels as if the growing season is gonna continue forever this year.
  6. Too bad Polar Cub is closed for the season now. It would've been nice to stop for ice cream on my way to bow hunting in Readington with all this 80 degree weather late october and early november.
  7. 80 degrees here right now, as we start this ridiculous 3 day torch.
  8. The growing season didn't end for my location. I was surprised when I woke up early in the morning and saw that it was cloudy outside. That was a MAJOR break. That cloud cover stopped the temp from falling right when it was hitting 32, and saved my area from having a damaging freeze. I was just out in the vegetable garden and not one bit of damage. I will be picking a lot more pole lima beans with this warm pattern coming up. Very happy now after being pretty nervous about last night.
  9. The pole lima beans are amazing how strong they produce right up until first freeze. Right now I'm picking the most I've had all season. The tomatoes, peppers and eggplants are really fizzling out now, but the pole lima beans are still flowering with new pods coming on all the time. So I hope we avoid the freeze tomorrow night. It's going to be a close call with temps getting down near freezing here. It would be ashame to see it come to an end, especially considering the warm pattern coming with no more freeze threats for quite awhile after tomorrow night.
  10. I'm a little nervous about Sunday night. Right now I think 33 or 34 so the growing season can continue here, but a very close call. My pole lima beans are still producing heavily and will keep doing that up until a freeze. If we can get through Sunday night, we'll be in good shape for it to continue for a long time with a warm pattern settling in. Looks like 80 degrees for Halloween. Crazy.
  11. That does look like a decent cool shot Sunday into Monday. Looks like another close call for the growing season like we had with last week's cool shot when it got down to 34 here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay just above the freezing level again so the growing season can continue. I think it will, but it looks close for Sunday night. Hopefully just mid 30s.
  12. 82 degrees here. I'm leaving for bow hunting right now. It sure doesn't feel like hunting weather, lol. Two more days of this and then a nice cooldown.
  13. I think the warmth for the next few days looks as impressive as it always has. Still looks likely that we're gonna see low 80s here Monday and Tuesday, and perhaps Wednesday as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see warm spots get as high as 83. Maybe after that (starting Thursday) the cooldown looks a little more impressive than it did a few days ago. High temps might stay in the 60s for most of the rest of the month, but it's possible we'll warm back up to the low 70s for the last couple days of the month. Overall much warmer than normal from now until the end of the month.
  14. I'm enjoying the perfect weather but also very annoyed, lol. It's frustrating for gardeners when it's this dry.
  15. The 70 degree weather felt good today. I wish we could get some rain, but this is great weather. I drove up to Sussex County and went to Swartwood Park today. Lots of nice color up there. I was concerned that the extremely dry weather might mess up the fall foliage season, but it looks pretty good. Some trees lost leaves early, but still plenty of great color.
  16. That's good information. I know it's risky planting this late because the seed might not have enough time to get established, but it does look warm the next 2 weeks and who knows about November. Maybe it won't get too cold in early to mid November. And unlike doing a whole lawn, it's not as big a deal if it doesn't work out if it's only a few patches. He might want to take a shot.
  17. Even with the warm pattern settling in, I think it's probably too late to plant grass. You typically want to plant grass seed a month and half before the first frost.
  18. Had a low temp of 34 here this morning. Close call, but no damage to the vegetable garden. I'm glad the growing season will continue for quite awhile here with the warm pattern settling in, but I wish we could get some rain. Crazy that we haven't had a drop of rain in October after getting very little rain in September, and still no rain in sight.
  19. Had a low temp of 37 here this morning. The vegetable garden is fine and it will be again tonight as we stay well above freeze level. My pole lima beans are producing like crazy. I don't want a freeze to happen until early November, which looks likely at this point. 80 degrees coming early next week, and no sign of any significant cool shots for late October.
  20. Starting to think you're right about October ending up well above normal. Looks like a VERY warm pattern after the cool weather this week. Some mid to upper 70s ahead.
  21. And we really had only 1 decent rain event in September. This is turning into a bad drought. Very frustrating. With the chilly weather this week I don't think low temps will get any lower than mid 30s here and then the big long term warmup, so the growing season will continue for a long time. Will just have to keep watering and watering.
  22. Had a low temp of 38 here this morning. Went bow hunting yesterday and enjoyed being out in the cool crisp weather. Looking forward to more of that type of weather next week. We could have a few days in which it only makes it to upper 50s for highs next week.
  23. Next week looks well below normal, but yeah it does look like a pretty good warmup for next weekend into the week of October 21st. How strong that warmup is and how long it lasts will determine whether we have a near normal month or solidly above. We'll have to see if we get another cool shot near the end of the month. Right now Don Sutherland's estimate is that the month will be only a half degree above normal.
