You are making my point that you are not a winter guy...in the coming years you and your buddy from tolland will be sitting around the shuffleboard area at some condo place in FLA....perhaps living side by side....while watching the Weather Channel as the report on an historic blizzard in New England...all the while thinking "Those Poor Bastards" lol
-
While I do think Chris Martz is largely off his rocker and clearly biased, this new information (if verified) does change the background to the Nepal floods significantly IMHO: https://x.com/MatthewWielicki/status/2094549198473740371

My yard is dead and oaks dropping brown leaves. About as bad as the drought a few years ago. -
No way this is becoming a hurricane. Still so weak and not enough time until landfall.
-
I was a bit shocked when I saw that this morning and wording of "significant strengthening expected" prior to landfall. Certainly we've seen this develop a nice looking circulation but there's been little evidence of any potential for significant strengthening. Even latest recon passes aren't finding much. Satellite presentation and evolution doesn't really scream that either. You never know with these Gulf systems though...who knows, we probably get hurricane winds that extend 3 miles from the center

So far the rain trajectory on radar keeps me on the "have not" side of this equation. Soils need a good drink but if it stays dry today there's 2 fields of trees that have orchard grass up to my shoulders that need mowing. Just don't scrape me with 0.10" to ruin both options. -
2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino

Odd...CANSIPS corrected the El Nino east again, but pattern actually trended a bit better. Maybe a sign of what I was saying about Modoki value not being a big deal when you have this much warmth throughout the basin. -

I haven't thought too much about temp departures numbers yet, but yea...maybe even a bit colder. I could see it being like +3 up here. A lot will depend on whether we get that one exotically warm month on the front end, which is very possible. -
First pass of recon shows no notable pressure drop or uptick in winds

I’m thinking +3 or so DJF for the mid atlantic, but with plenty of shots at a KU. Same page? -

I'm confident that it's too cold.....these seasonal models can be in error right up until verification, as we have seen. That being said, I don't expect an awful snowfall season for the east coast. -

Any comments on this @donsutherland1@chubbsor others? Here’s the first reply to this Martz post: “Various before and after pictures, it’s clear the land/cliff collapsed, with the glacier perched on top of it. This is what happens in the Himalayas. It is by its nature and glaciers by their definition are unstable.”
