Hello from Eastern N.C. I lived in Bronxville, NY from 1951-53 until my father returned to Washington, D.C. where he grew up. As a youngster my parents would send me off for a few weeks every summer to Grandma's house in Bronxville. The area was beautiful, I remember riding my tricycle along the brick sidewalks. I'd also walk down to the station to buy penny gum or candy from the little vending machines and watch the trains. I guess this is where I got my love for trains. Never heard of City Island before, it looks like a great place. Probably get some decent snow in winter unlike my current home (except for the 14" whopper last winter which blew me away after 20 years here without ever seeing more than 3".) Hope all is well at your end, and wishing you a fun winter.

Just had a brief heavy downpour here. 0.43" total so far. Definitely been a nickel and dime event today with a lot of drizzle or nothing at all much of the time.

Not alot of people have an ideal choice of placement for a weather station (myself included). Calling out others based on your own bad placement is lame.

I guess that’s where I got caught up. They are correct for sampling 2-meter wind speed. They are just boring; like that’s the speed the wind is 6 feet above your yard. Same with temperature. We don’t like that and want to sample the free air above treetop exposed wind because it’s more sexy. The one part of it I can square is that the force that would cause tree damage is the wind at canopy top level. Like knowing what wind speed at that 80-100 foot level above ground starts tree damage would be important. It’s sort of like tarmac temps/winds vs wooded area temps/winds. Pros and cons to both sitings. The weenie set up is temp close to ground and wind 100 feet overhead.

I mean there’s almost no one here that has a home wx station that uses their anemometers for winds . They all know they aren’t correct . Unless it’s mounted up on a roof on hilltop like Gene

I 100% understand what you are saying, you are trying to estimate the wind above treetop height, right? To me it’s like saying your temperature is 35F on a night the station says 45F… but saying “well if the trees weren’t there and it was open to the sky above, I’d have radiated more.” Do you live 100 feet up above the canopy? I feel like that caveat is important to mention.
