Posted April 22, 2015 Share Posted April 22, 2015 Just happened near Puerto Montt, Chile; 250,000 people live within 35 km so tons of jaw dropping pics and video all over the place; here's one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=juwtnTB1RCU it's a very active volcano but hasn't erupted since 1972....a lot of VEI 4 and a few 5s in its history, basically Mount St. Helens-ish but not the type to have global climate effects. I don't know about all the different particulates, but land and sea volcanoes combined release a total of about 200 million tons of CO2 annually. Humans release around 27 billion tons, so humans release orders of magnitude more. A small eruption like this isn't likely to change that ratio much for this year.
