GoAPPS
"Winter in Waiting" On Saturday, rime ice covered the evergreens at the highest peaks of the Blue Ridge Parkway as autumn filled the valleys with golden hues. 8
Tyler Penland
A pair of freezing readings for me the last two mornings: 32.0 on the nose and 29.5 this morning. There's still a lot more green leaves than I would expect to see given the extended cool stretch. Quickly getting to a point here at the house where they are either green or gone. Weird.

Tyler Penland
Fall color update from Little Lost Cove Cliffs this morning. Exceptional amount of green for October 20th. Color level still up around 3500-4000ft, tons of green on the Parkway over Grandfather even. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro using Tapatalk 4

I love that little hike to Little Lost Cove Cliffs, but I like the one to Big Lost Cove Cliffs, just higher up that same forest road, even better. Both have excellent views of Grandfather and the Wilson Creek drainage basin. Thanks for sharing that beautiful picture.
Tyler Penland
There's a legitimate chance we make it all the way into November with no rain. From Isaias to an extended very dry period - reminds me of the post-Helene pattern.

eyewall Posted yesterday at 01:25 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:25 PM I am glad I skipped Linn Cove this year as I heard it was a zoo even at sunrise now. I used to go every year for fall but this time I went for WV/VA.

I used to go every year for fall but this time I went for WV/VA. There was a fight on the Viaduct one day due to pedestrians being on the bridge. I heard but haven't been able to verify that people were stopping their cars and getting out while on it at times. Absolute insanity. Ever since the Covid outdoor run it's been a madhouse up there, and seems like more tourons every year. The NRG area during fall color is magical. Did you make it up to Dolly Sods? I've always wanted to get up there for the fall color.

I've always wanted to get up there for the fall color. It was too late for Dolly Sods and the remnants of Isaias did a number on the higher elevation leaves but I hit some real nice spots near Monterey VA and at the Blackwater Canyon in WV as well as near Seneca Rocks (which is an awesome place color or not). These were all taken on 10/15 and 10/16.
