I absolutely hate canadian air and blue bird skies. Reminds of fall and another boring weather periods. If it's gonna be cooler, the sky needs to least be filled with cumulus congestis to keep hopes alive and promote the top water bite.

Today is not as bad as I feared it would be. Having said that, I completely agree with the sentiment. 

Only got to upper 80s. Not sure what heat index got to.

I don't believe all the convection, allowing models bring storms this far south and east, This morning, two of  three brought that early morning Glaks complex through our area with some strong embedded thunderstorms. And that never happened. The other one dropped a complex through western pennsylvania, and that never happened either. Nevertheless, we have thunderstorms heading in this general direction, and we have plenty of a destabilized environment.

And that never happened. The other one dropped a complex through western pennsylvania, and that never happened either. Nevertheless, we have thunderstorms heading in this general direction, and we have plenty of a destabilized environment. 

Storms were pretty bad in Lanco. Lots of thunder and lightning and flooding. Woke me up at 1:00 am.

We're working with stable lapse rates today compared to previous days. We don't have 6 to 7°C cooling per kilometer this evening and these storms aren't maintaining vigor quite like they've been the past few nights. I'm not saying there won't be storms in the area tonight  just pointing out an observation.

I'm talking about the complex that I posted about around 4:30 in the morning that was due to get here around 8:00 9:00 am this morning If it made it.  I stayed up all night last night watching lightning and listening to thunder. Im prepared to do the same tonight If need be, we don't get these patterns too often and i'm not one to miss it.

That was a beautiful bow echo . Even had the hallmark bookend vorticity. Unfortunately, when it exited that small finger of better low-level lapse rates, it just couldn't maintain that kind of storm vigor.. It is going to run into better mid-level lapse rate as it nears the susquehanna river.

   Since i'm already on the bender, I figured why not watch hall y'alls winter forecast. That old four eyed dork is looking as lean and handsome as ever I must say. Anywho, he expects the northeast and mid atlantic will get a snow or ice storm that exceeds expectations.  That sums up his winter outlook for our area.

With the active weather the past few days, we have not had a chance to review the final month of Meteorological Summer. Here are the final stats for August 2026 at the Susquehanna Valley's official NWS climate site - Harrisburg International Airport (HIA).

SUMMER 2026 RECAP 

We still have a few weeks of Astronomical Summer left, but Meteorological Summer ended earlier this week. Here is a look at the final statistics for Summer 2026 from the Susquehanna Valley's official NWS climate site - Harrisburg International Airport (HAI).

We had 3 days with highs in the 100s. The last time we had 3 days or more in the 100s during a summer season was 1999. Even though we had some incredibly hot days, we were only 0.8° above average for the whole season. This places Summer 2026 as the 15th warmest on record (out of 139 years).

Summer 2026 was dry for some and wet for others in the Susquehanna Valley. At Harrisburg International Airport, it was dry with only 9.05" recorded all season. This is 3.44" below average and places Summer 2026 as the 47th driest Summer on record (out of 139 years).

NOTE - some areas across the Susquehanna Valley saw very heavy rainfall due to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Due to the high variability with rainfall over short distances, the 9.05" recorded HIA may not reflect the Summer season for everyone in the Susquehanna Valley. #PAwx #WGALWeather
