It's still got a snow tag. Might as well add winter, lol! Perhaps that's just to make us feel less hot right now.

After the severe today they have flash flood risk for Wednesday. Can't argue with a front stalling. What else do they do in July? Got a tropical system far enough away to be no threat, but it still helps pump in moisture. Ambient moisture is enough anyway. These dewpoints are ludicrous even for July!

Or winter is just gonna be that warm!  LOL.  But yeah, i need some seriously lower humidity, Jeff.  I am soaked every morning after my run.  Just looks like someone took a 5 gallon bucket, and poured over my head.  Same deal after mowing. 

Tags are now spring and summer - you all have high standards for thread tags!   If it was Montana, I might leave snow.  They started the month out w/ winter storm warnings in SW Montana!  Fortunately, the west is getting some much needed monsoonal rains in a few areas.  I saw that Mammoth had rain this past week.  Not unheard of, but it was plentiful.  Portions of MT had flood warnings last week which is kind of nuts out there during the summer. 

Storms kind of fizzled out in NE TN this evening - so far.  I don't mind that.  Storms IMBY seem to find a way to get pretty bad on NW flow t-storms during July.....just not NW flow snow during January. 

But yo....send me some crisp air masses.  Central Florida can keep this humidity.  It's theirs, and they can have it back!

Very heavy rain training over my location this morning, although I am kind of on the southern end of it. Currently at about 1.10in for the day and still pouring. It comes and goes in very heavy bands but just keeps training over me. Looks like the band may be lifting north ever so slightly for the moment, so it may come to an end soon for now. Looks like as the front pushes south later, it may push the whole thing back south later on. Hopefully the areas that have been the driest can get in the band at some time today or tomorrow.

As Jeff noted, that stalled frontal boundary has reared its ugly head this AM.  Bean Station is seeing a lot of heavy rain.

One thing which is nice about this in NE TN(not relief for everyone as has been shared), the drought is getting busted up here.  We aren’t there yet, but much better off than during spring and winter.

Finally the firehouse is off at the house for the moment. Ended up with around 2.73in of rain for the moment. Kinda glad I was on the southern end of it, as like Carver said, just 4mi to my W/NW, Radarscope is estimating Bean Station has had close to 6in of rain!!!

The band of rain set up south of my area. Looks like 3-5 inches around that area and less than .5 here. Not too upset by that, too much rain here already lately.

Well the break didn’t last long. Looks like it just wants to pour all day long! Radarscope estimates over 4in for mby now, but I’m not at home, so can’t check it now. Crazy how stationary this band is!

I just got home and checked the station. Looks like I recorded 3.77in today. I’m reminded why it’s hard to use Radarscope to perfection, but it generally will give you an idea. If I were to literally go down the hill in my neighborhood to the lake though, they have definitely received over 4in and then just across on the other side of the lake is Bean Station and Mooresburg. There, over 5-6in of rain fell.

I only got about .4 yesterday. 15 miles away it was 10x that.  After 15 inches in 30 days, I'm kind of glad to have missed it. My yard is out of control and it hasn't been dry a single 24 hour period in seemingly over a week.

This week's drought monitor didn't really change for my area despite around 3.5 inches of rainfall since it last came out. Surprised by that. Remained abnormally dry.

I take that back, it moved from drought 1 to abnormally dry and it didn't count the 1.3 inches of combined rain I got Monday and yesterday, since it was actual measured rain through 8am Monday.

Yes, the grass never seems to dry off regardless of whether it rains that day. Mowing is a pain in the ass of late.

It finally rained IMBY today. 1.25" is the most I've recorded in a day since 5/6. Monthly total for July is still only about 40% of normal. I think I might be the only person in the state with worsening drought conditions.

Wow you've been hosed @dwagner88 we have done pretty well since June IMBY. I remember you moved though. 

Post frontal in Chattanooga feels so wonderful! Still dew 70+ but it's cloudy with a north breeze. Staying cloudy post frontal feels great in summer. Could be a preview of El Nino though. For now, focus on the good today. And think of football season!

This is about the time of year that I start looking for the first fall air mass on ext LR modeling.  Nothing is clear right now.  All eyes are on Alaska.  If we can stick a ridge in Alaska during late August, that will be something we haven't done in long time, especially at that time of year for any length at all.

Every time I had to unjam the bagger tube on the mower today, I literally thought about your last sentence!  Haha!  I suppose it is better than the "cloud of dust" La Nina pattern that my yard has experienced for what seems like the last decade.  It is crazy how green everything is in NE TN.  It is almost like Mother Nature forgot spring, and were are going back and making up the course work right now.

August could be a good night sky month is the clouds cooperate. Jax got the Perseids above. Fond memories of summer come to mind. Too bad the kids are in school by then now days. Peak is spread out a few days per the video, so maybe catch a dark rural sky on a weekend. 

Next we have a near total lunar eclipse the night of Aug. 27-28. The 96% lunar is gorgeous with an extended diamond ring phase where one side is lighter. Of course it's not as spectacular as a solar diamond ring, but at the same time I believe lunar eclipses are severely underrated. In contrast to solar, where I'm a Total or Nothing mentality, deep lunar eclipses are arguably as gorgeous as full lunar. 

Hopefully by then we've also had a couple early season fronts. Might not cool down much, but take the edge off the humidity. Occasionally NW flow on weekly progs would help the cloud issue for astronomy too. Afternoon t-storm cloud debris tends to clear sooner.
