Finally getting some of the goods.  Have picked up 1.37" which is more than 7x what I had month-to-date combined.  Would love to have more tomorrow and Tuesday to stock up the soil before the big heat arrives.

Edit: Mother Nature appears to be trying to make up for all the cells that have veered to the north/east/south/west, split apart, or mysteriously died in the last two weeks: up to 2.42" and still coming down.

Apparently my whining about cells missing all month was noted.  Had 2.76" when I went to bed last night.  Then an additional 3.15" overnight for an event total of 5.91".  I declare uncle.

Pitt County had almost 9" in places and widespread 5-8" totals, many roads underwater this morning and even some washed out....most of it fell in 5-6 hrs. Dozens of water rescues last night as roads flooded and trapped people.

This has led to widespread flooding across
portions of Greene, Pitt, and Martin Counties, with MRMS maximum
ARIs of 70-90 years. In other words, there is roughly a 1%
chance of an event like this occurring in any given year, making
it a notable flash flood event. What`s more notable is that
last night`s event was not associated with any tropical system.

The highs in the area were 93-95. But that tells only some of the story as the dewpoints/RH made it feel like ~100-102. I had to go into a house whose AC is broken. It was 91 inside and this was at 8PM. I was soaking wet within 5 minutes!

GSO has managed to record at least a trace of precip for the past 15 consecutive days going back to June 5th. Somehow that amounted to a MTD precip anomaly of only +.16, with the highest single day total being .64. Raleigh is at +1.02, Fayetteville +1.04, Asheville +1.28, Charlotte +.86, Danville -.49, Wilmington +.31

That 8.22" last week increased my YTD total by more than 50%!  What was a very dry year statistically is now on track at 24.30".  Just got back from visiting the wife's family in western PA and all the plants look lush.  We'll see how they fare after a week of big heat.

Interestingly, their region of western PA has had almost no summer so far, with constant rain and cool temps.  A switch has just flipped though, as it launched into 80's yesterday.  They will be in the upper 80s to 90 next week with high humidity, which is very unusual for them.  Although I enjoy visiting them I was anxious to escape before the heat as central air is almost unknown up there, and most of the bedrooms are upstairs.  It can be very uncomfortable sleeping at night even in normal weather.

OK, what's the over/under for the "RDU offset" for this week's heatwave?  I have +3 °F.  I am thinking it won't be quite as bad as last year's flash drought as we have been a bit moist going into it.

I am actually tracking right around RDU today. Airports last reading was 96 currently 96.8 here and going up. Last year RDU was usually at least 2 degrees above my reading
