We did have an X5 flare this morning so don’t discount anything if you can get somewhere dark. Waiting for more info on it though. Hopefully clouds won’t ruin it.

I believe that flare would hit Wednesday or Thursday night while the one tonight is seperate

In the latest swpc post they suggest as early as late tonight to early tomorrow, but I hope it’s later so I don’t have to stay up or wake up early :sleepy:

I saw that, it seems like models differ on if itll hit either late tonight, tomorrow midday (bad ofc), or tomorrow evening peak

My aurora chat is popping off and they (not experts... hobbyists) are leaning tomorrow night. They are very excited... G4/G5. Gonna make a plan to get out in the boonies.

I am hoping for a May 2024 type of event overnight and perhaps something good making it until after sunset tomorrow evening.

First CME imminent according to a text alert I just got.

I think I’m tomorrow night or bust. Would take a pretty strong signal in the next 2 hours to get me outside - don’t think these precursor CMEs were supposed to be too special. Probably see something from SNP.

Think the hope is these destabilize the magnetosphere a bit and the one tomorrow pops off. Hopefully an added benefit of extended darkness is that we’ve got a larger window and can worry about timing a little less. Fingers crossed.

Looks pretty impressive. Might’ve lied and may go out tonight. First impact should be in ~30m. If we can see it very locally… game on.

The only problem is the Bz needs to drop south.

Tonight? I was thinking tomorrow night.

Probably both nights. Gonna try tonight since it's getting some steam online. If I lived where you did I'd stick my head out soon regardless... you've got much less light to deal with then I do lol
