Geez just saw the warnings for Pete and gods country crew along with the Freak in VT, winds to 70, heavy heavy damage. No power Pete climbing the pole in his Wolf fur coat with squirrel hat with coyote hide shoes again.

The mountaintops will get hurricane force wind gusts but the winds will be a lot lower than the last cutter.

Just got in. Nice night out there with a beautiful halo around the moon. the proverbial calm before the storm. At least we'll get some white first. The power outage thing is a nuisance but I serviced and topped off the generator in October so if need be.... Still, I'm looking right past this storm for there are good times just over the horizon. I'm hoping we get several inches of snow then an extended period of sleet/zr. That stuff is usually pretty stout and stands up to some abuse. I'll count it as a victory if we don't lose our meager snowpack. Regardless, I think our fortunes are about to change in a big way. You know, Christmas snow is Magical.

You are totally at odds with your peers at BTV , huge downslope event. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/btv/headline/

Am I? I actually just read an AFD from there and they said the magnitude won't be nearly as bad as the December 1st event. Not surprising.

Snowcover up there on the west slopes should also help put a lid on things.

as we thought...

I SAY THIS AS THERE ARE MANY SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THIS

SYSTEM AND THE ONE WHICH BROUGHT DEVASTATING DOWNSLOPING WINDS TO

THE WESTERN SLOPES OF THE GREEN MOUNTAINS DECEMBER 1ST. GOOD NEWS

IS THAT THE MAGNITUDE AND AREAL EXTENT OF THE EXPECTED IMPACTS

WILL BE LESS WITH THIS ONE.

How so ? Not doubting you, just curious about the mechanism at work.

It'll get cold by Monday night but this is no flash freeze.

MONDAY...

THE HEAVY RAIN SHOULD COME TO AN END ACROSS THE COASTAL PLAIN BY MID

TO LATE MONDAY MORNING...AS THE STRONG LOW LEVEL JET/FORCING HAVE

MOVED OFF TO THE EAST. HOWEVER...DEEP CLOSED UPPER LEVEL LOW

PRESSURE WILL REMAIN TO OUR WEST AND SHOULD RESULT IN ENOUGH LIFT

FOR A FEW HIT AND MISS SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS. ANY SCATTERED

SHOWERS SHOULD CHANGE TO SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE

INTERIOR LATE IN THE AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING AS COLDER AIR WORKS

INTO THE REGION. WE SHOULD NOT SEE THIS AMOUNT TO MUCH ACROSS MOST

OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. HOWEVER...WE MAY SEE SOME SPOTTY LIGHT

ACCUMULATIONS ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE BERKSHIRES TOWARD EVENING

AS COLD POOL ALOFT/STEEPENING LAPSE RATES APPROACHES THE REGION.

Box agrees. I'm banking on being in the right spot for a "spotty light accumulation" Monday night. Doesn't seem like a wide spread snowfall is in the cards as the system pull away.
