First Off - 1995-1996 is 3rd all-time for me. 2004-2005 and 1977-1978 are ahead of it.

Second - I rated the best 20 winters of all-time in terms of Overal Awesomeness. 1947-1948, 1977-1978 are up top. This Winter would rank 6th or 7th even if it Stopped Right Now. Amazing!!

Officially, it's 12th. And FIRST for February 3rd by a little.

Did the event 15 years ago occur on a Friday night? The storm gelled at the eleventh hour and it dumped 8 inches in Queens where I was at. Anyone recall how much the South Coast and Cape picked up?

That was my wedding weekend....got married Sunday 2/4/96. Friday night we had a traditional dinner for about 30 people. We had about 6 inches of snow and it was quite cold. My wedding day featured a high of 10F.

Everybody remembers 1995-96 as a great winter and the snow was superb. But the frequent torches were a bit much. Here's a file:

  • 4 weeks later...

PVD 105.2"

BOS 107.6"

ORH 97.9" on record but I think that is debatable. Might be too low, but Will knows for sure.

BDL 115.2"

Ray has the correct amount listed above....132.9". Biggest errors on that season are 0.0" in November '95 and 0.5" in Mar '96. Feb '96 had something like 16" vs 10.5" listed. We corrected it bakc about 5 years ago, but it never got on the site there. I'm pretty sure its in their internal data base though.

I thought it was 130 something, but it's frustrating that false data is out there like that.

With today's event BDL is at 84.1'' I believe for the season, so need another 32'' or so to break the record...unless March delivers in a big way the 1995-1996 record will stand for yet another year. I was really hoping though to get to 100''...I really though we would get there, but February wasn't that great. 90'' is possible.

I always get the numbers mixed up with '92-'93. Is that 120" correct for ORH?? I want to get these straightened out for my own purposes.

Most of the numbers prior to '95-'96 are correct on the BOX table...there's only a few minor errors ('73-'74 is listed about 11" too low for some reason). A couple years in the 1980s are incorrect too, but relatively close on the table. Only that period between '95 and '02 has huge errors.

Cool, thanks.

Actually I would as well...I just redid my snowfall notebooks and did it in pencil this time...hoping to get a few things cleared up as well here:

For BDL:

Monthly (Jul-Jun) snowfall totals for 2000-2001 and 2002-2003

For ORH:

Monthly (Jul-Jun) snowfall totals for 1973-1974; 1995-1996; 1997-1998; 1998-1999; 1999-2000; 2000-2001; 2001-2002; 2002-2003; 2003-2004; 2005-2006; 2006-2007; 2007-2008; 2008-2009)

PVD:

Monthly (Jul-Jun) snowfall totals for 1997-1998; 2002-2003; 2003-2004; 2008-2009

We'll almost certainly need a 2nd HECS this season to have any chance at '95-'95. Still needing over 40" with the first week of March looking pretty "bleh" will have us relying on a monster. I suppose we could get the equally rare combo of three more 10"+ storms that late in the season with a nickle or two thrown in...years like '58, '56 and '67 pulled off something close to that.
