  1. Yes. I'm in Port Hood on Cape Breton Island. Conditions gradually deteriorating here with heavy rain and a relatively light breeze so far. Not much bandwidth to stream. If there's something streamable I'll try to do so. Pressure down to 994.5mb.
  2. 18z GFS still hooks it west as it transitions tonight and the Euro will probably do the same. It’s just a waiting game to see if it happens. This is always my most nerve wracking time but the waiting is always tough. Tropical definitely ain’t for the faint of heart.
  3. This is always the most nerve wracking time. After all the tracking, after all the research, after all the travel…you just hope you made a good call. We shall see.
  4. It’s beautiful up here. I’m just waiting to see when this makes the turn north…
  5. Here’s the mesonet for Cape Breton and NS. https://www.capebretonweather.ca/
  6. Meanwhile, the 12z Euro is a nuke for FL and has the system intensify again off the east coast.
  7. I’m still floored that the models are still showing this as an 18h forecast.
  8. Yep, that's what I figured. It's all down to nowcasting now. It's hauling up this way. https://media1.giphy.com/media/DpD25Z4bwv128wELZP/giphy.gif?cid=790b7611a7b1036802073fc007587d857c8e01987be1337d&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g
  9. Nice. I didn't expect him to be that far west. If he cashes in there with a center pass I should be a lock up here. Famous last words.
  10. Yeah, it's a gamble being on the island. Driving over it yesterday I think it'll be ok as long as it doesn't get crushed by waves. I'm guessing Josh is down by Canso?
  11. Yeah we'll see. I expect some water rise, but nothing too dramatic here given my position on the coast. If I were further south, it'd be trouble. Originally I was going to be in Louisbourg but that fell through.
  12. Yeah, it's a very nice look on satellite especially for this latitude. Don't like relying on a N/NNW hook but here we are Highest latitude Cat 4 since Debby in 1982 per Phil Klotzbach.
  13. Just waiting to see what the final approach and track looks like here. I haven't met a person yet who isn't taking this one seriously.
  14. I had to relocate once more, but only about a mile. My second option fell though after the owner decided to shut down. It's cloudy and breezy with light rain from the front. I'll be using my Kestrel and basic barometer to document the pressure fall. In a quick drive around we see a gas line at the local station and folks hunkering down by taking furniture inside and getting last minute supplies. Folks are taking this one seriously. Now's the hard part. Waiting. Fiona looks good on satellite, but now we have to see what the final approach and track look like. I think I'm in a good spot still, as a slightly further east track would probably allow for a better wind vector here, and a center pass is obviously a center pass. I am walking distance from the coast.

  16. Just shy of major status before a FL landfall in this first forecast. I do think this kind of track would produce an eventual east coast threat.
  17. Going to be hauling its way up here today. We’ll see how much intensity it can hold.
  18. We should be able to get a depression or NS today out of 98L, which should help guidance hone in on the forecast.
  19. Thanks and I agree. Hopefully the causeway isn't damaged because then I'm here a little longer than I'd like Best of luck out there.
  20. Thanks. The thing I worry about most is my current location deciding to shut down and kick me out tomorrow lol.
  21. That was the original plan. It was about 35ft ASL so I figured it’d be fine from surge. Hotel decided to shut down and I don’t really blame them given the topography there and lack of guidance on surge potential. When I chase I have multiple options so now I’m on the other side of Cape Breton. Probably not ideal because for higher end wind because I’m on the left side of the track, but what I trade with wind (which probably isn’t much based on what I see so far) I gain with a closer center pass. Hopefully. No matter what, this is undoubtedly going to be a high end event for this region. Potential all timer.
  22. Move that mean just south of Tampa and I think we're in business, otherwise we're relying on a lot to get that to curve back toward SNE.
