The last couple of summers have been exceptions and you have oddballs like 2011, but it’s frequent that this summer drought happens on the south shore. Without some kind of synoptic storm, it just doesn’t rain there this time of the year other than what can survive coming east from the city. I remember numerous summers growing up and watching MCS type structures collapse as soon as they reach JFK. Yesterday was a frontal boundary plus the sea breeze front but rain barely made it south of the LIE until well east in Suffolk where it collapsed anyway.

JFK and LGA both 91 at 10pm.

Rain is desperately needed there. Lawns down in Long Beach look practically charred. Hopefully we can have a more widespread convective day soon where storms can fire there. Up here it’s a total steam bath once again, like the Amazon.

Once the forcing from the sea breeze front goes away so do the storms. Unfortunately it’s why the south shore/east end often get so dry this time of the year.

Yep, my street which is on a hill was a flowing River for a few minutes in that last cell. Radar estimates 1.8-2” in my immediate area.

Steam is rising off my deck in the sun which is back out like nothing happened lol.

And just like that, sun is back out and we’re back in the steam bath. Crazy last 90 minutes.

Insanely heavy rain in this cell. Like during Ida heavy. No hail that I can tell but my street is flowing like a river.

There was clearly rotation for a good stretch from maybe Hicksville east to Deer Park where it got stronger.

Here we go again here. Thunder getting louder and nasty cell near Syosset.

That hook got quite intense right around the Sagtikos/Southern State, if there was a tornado it would’ve been there.

Radar estimating about 1.4” for me so far and 2” in N Nassau.

That rotation looks pronounced right over Deer Park. Wonder if there are any funnel cloud sightings.

The LIE must be…. fun around the Rt 231 exit right now.

I’m quite surprised there’s no tornado warning on it. Definitely looks like some rotation near E Farmingdale.

There must be some decent sized hail in that core near the LIE about to cross into Melville. Enough to cause some damage. Same here though-heavy rain with a few 20 mph or so gusts.

Some rotation near Hicksville/Levittown? Also definitely a hail core over Jericho.

Yep, feels disgusting outside. Hopefully we can get something to fire near the coast and not just NJ and places away. Rain is definitely needed here.
