  1. I know this has already been stated but the big Aleutian low will probably kill our chances at cold for a couple of weeks. It is nice to see that feature retrograde westward over time to allow some ridging to develop.
  2. I think the lowest pressure for that area is 924mb. Not sure about world record for non-tropical.
  3. 12z GFS is interesting at the 500mb level with the trough going negative tilt with the second wave at hour 144 (12z Sun, Jan. 3rd) at the Bama/Georgia border. This pops a strong coastal low that heads up the Carolinas and then out to sea. Mountains get a few inches as most the precip shield stays to the southeast which is fine for now. At least there is a signal at the 500mb level. I’m interested in the 12z Euro now that it showed this wave last night.
  4. 12z GFS is BIG for middle TN. Foot+ in some spots up to 20 inches in Eastern KY
  5. Very cool the last few mornings. I didn’t happen to look at what the records are but low 40’s feels really darn cold to my body this early lol.
  6. Couplet has intensified in KY northeast of Pineville:
  7. Finally the KY storm is tornado warned. I got -91mph on the last RadarScope scan.
  8. Just crossed I-40 minutes ago. An area that certainly doesn’t need another tornado this year.
  9. Tornado warned storm east of Lebanon/Nashville is moving along I-40 with possibly a couplet developing:
  10. Etowah storm report of 1.75” hail (golf ball). If in the path northeast of there I would certainly cover vehicles if possible. Appears Tellico Plains will get squeezed in between the 2 cells. Also a warned storm on the plateau.
  11. Have our first severe warned storm with up to 1” hail working into Etowah and up the southern portions of the Valley.
  12. 0z HI-RES NAM is wanting to move the line into the mountains by morning.
  13. The line appears to be making good progress eastward. I guess time till tell where it may get hung up at.
  14. Really concerned about the Plateau counties into SE KY tonight and into the morning. If the 18z HI-RES NAM is to be believed 4-6” of rain will fall by tomorrow afternoon. 23z HRRR shifts the axis of the heavy rain of 4-5” from over Chattanooga up the spine of the mountains. Anyway you slice it someone in our forum area will have some very dangerous flash flooding.
  15. Camp Creek gust of 123mph was ruled erroneous after quality control. Gust was revised to 81mph.
  16. All local tv Mets have used the 123mph measurement on social media this morning. [emoji2960]
  17. This morning’s rains have already brought .75 to over an inch for much of SWVA.
  18. Kingsport needs to watch out for hail over the next hour or so. Already half inch hail reported. Also some idiot lit a brush fire about 10 minutes ago. Wind is howling.
  19. SPC outlook today. Large hail and damaging winds the threat this evening across NETN/SWVA.
  20. Also here's the Mesoanalysis page from SPC. I saw the link to the SPC Main page but I thought it would be good to include this one. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/mesoanalysis/new/viewsector.php?sector=17 Weather Glossary that has definitions for just about all weather terms: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/help/glossary.jsp
