I wouldn't live anywhere else unless it was just higher up the mountain, above 2500ft is one of those lines where it's different in snow events. The WMA literally borders me on all sides. Good for hiking, recreation etc.

That's all Campbell Co, Scott border is about 7 miles west. That exit has just boomed for the city of Caryville. Those hotels stay booked year round for ATV tourism. I can be at exit 141 in about 10 minutes on an ATV.

Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?
John1122 replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
I've now had at least some snow on the ground all but about 7-8 days since Christmas eve. I saw that the Smokies have now had snow on the ground continuously since November 30th. -
Part 2 will be here tomorrow night. Probably lighter this round. I'd guess a heavy dusting to maybe 1.5 inches in the lower elevations with a lot more likely in the lower range of accumulation. Still I think a few people will get lucky and do okay with it. It's going to be colder than last night and today. My low is forecast to be 26 with the snow falling tomorrow night.
-
Actually you were close to my house most likely if you were on the Royal Blue/North Cumberland WMA.
-
I never was able to get more than an inch down. Once the sun came up it was just too much for any additional accumulations.
-
Getting close to an inch. Can't tell if the backside is close or not because of the dead radar zone over Fentress and Scott County. Looks like some cellular blobs have been hitting small areas of the midstate.

Fall/Winter Banter - Football, Basketball, Snowball?

I'd forgotten how good it felt to have a "normal" winter. Where it actually snows during the winter months on a fairly regular basis. Even if it doesn't snow another flake after today I've already had more snowfall and snowy winter days than I have in several years. Even one of our snowy years a few years ago was warm n Dec/Jan that went arctic in February and we had a 10 day snow/ice blitz. -
Up to quarters falling now. Probably 1/2, mile visibility. Heaviest snow so far. Temp went back up 1 degree when it started snowing hard. I've never seen temps fall when it's snowing less and rise when it gets harder.
-
Temp went back down to 31, approximately 1/2 inch has fallen. Nickel sized flakes coming down.

6z GFS has today's snow, another light clipper Sunday night, a storm south of the forum region around 144-162 that snows in a bit of the area, but has oddly little qpf in the colder areas. Then a major winter storm for the Western half of the state at 234-240ish. -
Finally started in earnest here about 30 minutes ago. Temp actually went from 31 to 32 when the snow picked up.
-
Finally started snowing here again. Still at 31, hope to get an inch.
-
After reading the AFD from MRX the mid-levels of the atmosphere aren't saturated here so that's why it looks like the precip is falling apart. Looks like another hour or two before it gets here.
-
It's odd, the Western plateau is just eating it up it looks like. It's like its hitting a wall there. Don't know if its an angle thing or what. It just won't move past Fentress down to Cumberland Co.
-
That's great. Was it from the 1st wave or the bigger wave that's moving in now?
-
Light snow started here. Hoping to squeeze out an inch or so. 31 degrees after getting down to 28 briefly. So at least the ground is frozen if we can get anything to fall.
-
Looks like it started breaking up. Wasn't sure if it was the Plateau affecting radar or the band dying out. The main snow per Morristown here is just before daybreak until noonish.
-
I always love the Star Wars hyperspace driving!
-
Looks like the edge of the first middle TN band is moving onto the western edge of the plateau.
-
Looks like Lebanon is about to get it per radar.
-
Looks like there's a 30-40 minute bulldozer band heading across the state and then steady snow back behind that. Temps in the region are all over the place. 30 here. 32 at the small airport in CC, 15 miles south it is near 40. Mid 30s in SE KY, near 30 in Fentress Co, 35 in Crossville.
-
Arrived home to a dusting of snow on cars, raised surfaces etc. The temp is 30 degrees. Hopefully we can make some hay over night.
-
In the gym but this bad boy is right over my house by now.

I'm about to go to a high school basketball game. A heavy snow shower is heading my way but I won't be home to see it most likely. MRX call map has me at .5 to 1 inch. So far this year those have busted low for me between 50 and 75 percent. Hope that is the case here too.
