  1. Crazy dry conditions in DC area after little rain in May into early June. Even rain chances are evaporating.
  2. I cannot remember the Mid-Atlantic DC region being this dry in May into early June. Don’t know what that means heat wise and for hurricane season but worth noting.
  3. Would be absolutely stunned if snowstorm happens. Then again Veterans Day 1987.
  4. Not trying to make synoptic comparisons but did we luck into 2/12/2006? I remember that being a crappy winter and then that storm comes out of nowhere seemingly as I think the Japanese model showed it happening.
  5. That was a very cold pattern. Two ice storms for DC area. Does this pattern resemble?
  6. Toronto reminds me a lot of Chicago from a cold and snow perspective. Spent four years up at Northwestern on the Chicago lakeshore 1996-2000. Only one massive snowstorm in January 1999. A fair amount of subzero lows and nasty windchills which corresponds to my annual February trips up to Toronto. In fact Chicago weather prepared me well.
  7. How unusual is it for West Coast sopping rains in a La Niña?
  8. The West Coast looks like an El Niño with atmospheric River and East Coast can’t catch a break. Is this going to be a 1983 big storm redux or 1998 shutout pattern?
  9. How would this Chicago storm compare to 1967, 1979, 1999? More wind and power outages I assume. Can’t wait for Tom Skilling and WGN forecast maps.
  10. Could be Tom Skilling of WGN Super Bowl of storms. Having gone to school at Northwestern ‘96-2000, I saw how excited he got about January ‘99 snow that dropped nearly 22 inches at O’hare. Rooting for Chicago record!!
  11. What does it show? I believe Christmas 1983 was coldest in DC. High 14 Low 3.
  12. I did not want to mention that storm from 12 years ago by name. Actually was living in northern New Jersey at the time where we cashed in. Back in NOVA now.
  13. Does the progged storm for late next week resemble any other storm or similar pattern?
  14. I was just wondering about that. We need to get to the 132 hour Bring on the gravity waves and thundersnow!
  15. January ‘96 was the godfather of northern Virginia snowstorms. I was a senior at Flint Hill and had a competition at Woodson that Saturday afternoon. Snow started around 8pm. Lasting thru all day Sunday and measured 24 inches at the house. No school for almost two weeks because no Zoom teaching during the Internet dial up era. Followed ptravel and snonut forecasts on one of the early weather boards.
  16. Was Christmas 1983 the lowest December mean daily temp in DC?
  17. Huge sports fan here and absolutely agree Tip. Soccer is just a poor TV sport. The whole game comes down to setting up angles for maybe three chances per game. Instead of 11 on 11, 9 on 9 play would open up the box and allow for more opportunities.
  18. Heading to Vegas on the 12th to see family. Missed Dec.2009 storm for same reason.
  19. Was February 2010 crippling Snowpocalypse accompanied by West Coast troughing?
  20. I think it was a tough call that was influenced greatly by Irma’s underwhelming storm surge from five years ago. In 2017 that storm turned slightly south hitting Marco Island but largely sparing Fort Myers area.
  21. Sadly agree with you. Good friends of mine barely escaped from Fort Myers Beach with their lives. Other friends and family are shaken. Look how Florida handled the Surfside condo collapse. Just pay off victims and families of the deceased so we can move on with business as usual. Have to keep the tourism merry go round going to fund the state.
  22. Has anyone heard from Fort Myers Beach?
  23. I know a couple who lives in Fort Myers Beach. She and her husband live on the highest part of the island and did not evacuate. Could they have survived such a surge?
  24. Same with friends of mine staying. Irma storm surge forecast did not pan out for Fort Myers area five years ago so they are skeptical of forecast.
  25. Have a friend who lives in Fort Myers Beach. Will storm surge be a problem there too?
