  1. GFS trying to replay the May 5-6-7 scenario with a low cutting off and spinning for days over the mid atlantic coast. I hope this is wrong but it's been a popular solution this month. https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=gfs&region=us&pkg=z500a&runtime=2022052006&fh=228
  2. The Potomac Highands have been waterboarded all day. Be patient east enders, your turn is coming soon.
  3. Maybe someday climate change will be researched without political bias or foregone conclusions
  4. More snow for Garrett County this April than this past December, and it really isn't even close. I can only hope Memorial Day weekend eclipses last years 43*F. Seasons really have become misaligned from what they used to be.
  5. We attended the caps game at PPG Saturday. Holy wow you should have seen that arena clear when the caps got that first open net goal. I thought Pittsburgh sports fans were tough.
  6. Snow showers all morning at Deep Creek. April is the new December here.
  7. At my kid’s soccer game in stephens city. Sure enough it actually doesn’t rain here. Who knew?
  8. Regionally speaking as opposed to IMBY October, December, February and March were all above normal (or well above normal) temps. November and January were below normal. This is against the revised backdrop of the 1991-2020 temperature norms which are already elevated. Objectively the story of the past 6 months has been consistently above normal temps with occasional outbreaks of severe cold / wind. Of curious note, the western Potomac highlands pulled off the elusive AN snowfall / AN temperature March. Pittsburgh was +3 and had the most March snowfall since 1993.
  9. Snowing at the lake and the ground is turning white
  10. The 5-10” predicted by LWX has verified. As I missed MLK, pretty sure this is actually my best event to date for my first winter up here. Go figure. Beautiful this morning
  11. Happy hour snow is no joke today! Cheers
  12. White out conditions at Deep Creek under this squall. 27/25
  13. I've been traveling elsewhere and absent for the past 3 weeks, looking forward to a promising return this weekend. A lot of firewood on my porch to get rid of before we break out the patio furniture for summer.
  14. You can’t fake it up here, but I have gotten surprisingly good at it and made some friends in unlikely places. People are motivated by different things up here for sure though. The early lessons were hard.
  15. Yesterday wasn’t shabby either. Was up overnight to reload the firewood with crystal clear skies and bright moonlight. Seems like another world entirely this morning.
  16. Piles of standing water over here. Suspect the ground remains frosty below the surface. Going to be an epic mud season up here.
  17. Amazing call. Snuck up today at zero dark thirty for the first visit in 2 weeks. Trying to coax the remainder of the crew up for the weekend. Guess we'll see.
  18. Hopefully it works out OK. WISP has been sold out of snow tubing for this weekend for a couple weeks already. Happy they managed to salvage a decent season after a disasterous start. We are on the fence this weekend with projects in flight in both places. The mild wx argues for sticking closer to home.
  19. +1.2F at Deep Creek / Swanton this AM. Up to 21*F now. Big thaw incoming Weds / Thurs, weekend looks sunny and boring.
  20. Roads are kinda awful though, sun got everything wet and now ice crust on top.
  21. Maybe they got the memo from VDOT Fredericksburg residency?
  22. After a +7 October and December, it’s difficult for anyone to honestly suggest we really saw any of this coming.
  23. Careful, the medium range looked pretty awful on NWP December 27 too
  24. We bottomed out at -11.8 here. On the ride in from I-68 along MD 495 the temperature fluctuated from a high of +10 to a low of -11 all within a couple of miles. Was still -7 when I arrived but all the way to +8 now. Impressive cold!
