  1. I think it’s a game they’re forced to play though. It’s probably too late for Ukraine but they can’t afford to let Putin think it’s going to be easy to roll the rest of them.
  2. I haven’t read the whole thing but this seems to be a pretty even handed assessment of what’s gone on so far. https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-february-28-2022 Edit: Thanks to @A Moonlit Sky for the original link to this.
  3. It’s only Zelensky calling for one to be established only to be immediately shot down by Jen Psaki. (Shot down, see what I did there? )
  4. Lol. As soon as I posted that I went to the Reuters app and that was the story at the top of the page.
  5. Yeah, that doesn’t seem to be the greatest move. I haven’t seen it reported by anyone though.
  6. I'm not sure. Cagey ex-KGB guy must have thought about all the possibilities
  7. Read some Tom Clancy novels like Red Storm Rising or The Hunt for Red October. We always avoid nuclear annihilation and the US comes out on top. Real feel good stories
  8. That's also one of the reasons Biden didn't raise our level of alert. That also makes Putin look even more like an aggressor
  9. The other thing is, what do we really know? I don't exactly trust all the rah rah Ukrainian reports but that's to be expected. The Russians aren't really giving any reports
  10. I'm sort of thinking along those lines as well but, I'm not sure they were expecting the response they've received from the rest of the world. It's unified a lot of previously fractured parties.
  11. Shockingly, FIFA comes to the correct conclusion. Not without some pressure though https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/60560567
  12. Well, people here do laugh but it doesn't seem to stop them from going insane.
  13. The New York Times is reporting that the Swiss have frozen Russian assets. I haven't found another source for that story, though Reuters reported that as probable earlier . Pretty telling as the Swiss are very protective of their neutrality.
  14. Man, you would have loved my drive home today. Squalls and whiteout condition. Right up you winded alley.
  15. Because we never end up actually getting severe thunderstorms? (Sorry Wiz )
  16. Really? Seems like it lasted my entire drive home from Woodsville.
  17. Yeah, we were in Littleton and it was snowing moderately when we left. By the time we got to Woodsville, it had pretty much stopped. I figured it had fizzled or had been overhyped. We stopped at Walmart for a few things and when we came out, it was pretty much white out conditions and stayed that like that all the way home on 302. Took us almost and hour from Woodsville, usually a 30-35 minute drive. Maybe 2” of snow at home.
  18. Hopefully this is a positive development. https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-kyiv-business-europe-moscow-2e4e1cf784f22b6afbe5a2f936725550
  19. What’s this picture? Must be in Moscow or St. Petersburg right? Is it blood from busting up protests?
  20. There have been stories that Putin has spent the time since the Crimea annexation making Russia better prepared to withstand sanctions. Paying down foreign debt, integrating Russian exports into Western European economies etc. Also, and you may have been the one to mention this, the Chinese have a competitor to SWIFT they’ve been trying to boost called CIPS, if I’m remembering correctly.
  21. These thermobaric weapons don’t look too surgical either. https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-deploys-feared-tos-1-heavy-flamethrower-near-ukraine-cnn-2022-2?amp
