  1. My wants: First 6" snow since 2019 -- CHECK! 6.5" and sleet now. I hope the 10-year drought folks reach 6" Heavy daytime snow -- CHECK! Glad the flip held off so I could have that
  2. That's gotta be some fast sledding! Hope you hold onto sleet as long as possible. Just flipped to all sleet in Germantown
  3. I hope it's that after the flip and not freezing rain! My p&c holds off freezing rain until this evening Mod snow, about 4" and 14 degrees (Germantown)
  4. 18 degrees in Germantown with moon and stars visible through thin clouds. We will see if we break the seven-year streak of no 6-plus inch snows here.
  5. I'm going to be watching closely for the flip to ice so I can leave a little snow on the driveway under the ice so I can scrape it off later. If ice glaze gets on bare driveway with the temps coming up, forget it!
  6. We are moving from a house with natural gas heat and cheap Potomac Ed electric to one with heat pump only and higher SMECO rates. Winter bills will be ugly! We're doing a pre-final walk-through today - we'll get to see how that heat pump handles 10 F
  7. I'm amazed by how cold it looks for days and days after this event! Imagine if something pops up in medium range next week like a strong clipper. Or if we get one of those deals where a big system forms as the cold pattern starts to relax.
  8. I get ya. I am in read-only mode over there and do my blabbing here
  9. In 1994 we had a devastating ice storm with 2 inches of solid ice. At times, we had moderate rain and 18 degrees! It was due to the cold layer being shallow enough for the rain to reach the ground as liquid despite such low surface temps. I this upcoming storm, hopefully the cold layer is thick enough to freeze the raindrops into sleet!
  10. Highs in the low to mid 80s in south FL the next few days! So different from the typical cold blast in the east where south FL is in the 50s. Anyone that booked a trip to FL this weekend got their money's worth
  11. Rooting for the underdog GFS to pull an upset over the vaunted EURO for much less ice down there. I was in Owings for 1994 and it was awful. I've got family in Owings, Huntingtown and Leonardtown.
  12. He talks about the dangerous ice storm risk for VA with temps in the upper teen/low 20s with well over an inch of accretion followed by single digits early next week. Very serious esp for people without generators. I have family in St Marys and Calvert and am starting to worry about them.
  13. Mine refused the rolling hills of Frederick County, MD so we are moving to Calvert Hoping for one last super MoCo-HoCo band from this storm before I start hanging out on the lower southern MD/eastern shore thread
  14. St. Mary's county would have 8-10" snow followed by well over an inch of freezing rain. That would be real bad
  15. That ice map for parts of the south is awful and would rival our 1994 disaster
  16. Whoa imagine boarding at -2 F with a thick snowpack and landing in lush vegetation, sun and 83 degrees four hours later
  17. I drove to my parents' place in Calvert as they were expecting 8-10 while Germantown was looking at an inch or two. They got 8 and Germantown got 7 LOL
  18. This is why I am moving to southern Calvert County - to get more snow
  19. Congrats on the jackpot Mappy! Got about 0.7 here
  20. Moderate snow now and about 1/3" on the ground. Sticking to streets
  21. Light snow now with a dusting. Radar looks like it should be pouring snow
  22. Had a graupel shower pass through a little while ago, 34 degrees
  23. Like last year when the Florida panhandle had a better storm than we did
  24. I can't believe it has been 30 years! I remember the whole day and night so clearly
