Managed to get 0.8 which is amazing for such an arid area. Best rain in weeks and might be the last for a very long time. I am looking forward to the gorgeous temps over the next several days
-
Finally catching a good shower although it'll be short as I'm getting the skinny part of the line. Jealous of Mt. Airy where two cells merged over them! I'll take anything to dent this nasty drought
-
It's incredible how much it rains in southern MoCo. Numerous areas there have 8-10.5" for the month and are getting trained again today while nothing here in the desert just 10-20 miles away.
-
Radar looking like a mostly I-95 and east event.
-
This makes you wonder what it feels like when places have hit rare super high dew points of 88 or 90.
-
Just got back in after watering and man is it hot already. At least no more mowing needed as the grass is completely dormant. Looking forward to spending hours out on the deck starting this weekend!
-
LOL at this point I'd be thrilled with a half inch. My total since July 2 has been 0.8 and everything is just parched. It's my last summer here as we're moving to southern Calvert next spring. I grew up in southern MD so I know what that means for winters, but maybe I'll actually see thunderstorms in the dang summer
-
I've been out some and yeah it's hot but not as horrible as expected. I cannot wait for this cold front though! I doubt I'll get any rain here and will water everything tomorrow as usual. But great temps are coming and all of next week looks good!
-
It is so hot! 87/77 with no wind making just a 15-minute dog walk a sweaty one. That Canadian airmass can't get here quick enough
-
CoCoRaHS for July 3 to today shows widespread 7-9 plus inch amounts in southern MoCo and 4-6 inches around Gaithersburg, compared to 0.8 here. What an incredible micro-climate desert this place is, and it's not just this year. This is normal. What a tough place to try to have a gardening hobby.
-
Some pop-up storms are forming quick, I hope I get under one Edit: it just missed. Congrats Gaithersburg AGAIN
-
Managed 0.3 which is a downpour for here LOL -- t-storm magnet Gaithersburg got 1.8. Still have less than an inch since July 2 My forecast for Friday is high in upper 70s and low of 60?!?! YES PLEASE
-
What I have is a bit of a rain shadow from higher elevations from W around to NE of me. T-storms will break up dropping down, then reorganize just east. Stephens City is a much worse example of this. OT but I just checked the weather in Morehead City/Atlantic Beach area where our two kids went and they have an extreme heat warning for heat index of up to 115! Oooooof
-
The drought monitor shows normal but that's because it has rained plenty in areas all around me. I can't tell you how many times I see a t-storm out my south-facing window as they roll thru Rockville/Gaithersburg, etc. Some of those places have been hit 5-6 times since the last time I saw a drop. I've let the lawn go and am just trying to keep my flower garden alive. Leaves are even falling already. And no, it will not rain here this evening or anytime soon
-
Here was me again getting missed just to the north. SEVERE drought in progress here almost no rain since July 2
-
Although my area is not technically in deficit, we absolutely have drought-like conditions here with hard, dry ground, dormant grass and lots of brown leaves on the ground. Only 0.5 since July 2
-
I'm looking forward to this break in humidity coming up but am smh at how we just went through two weeks of super high precipitable water with only a half inch of rain to show for it. I just watered the garden and damn the ground is rock hard. Last real rain was July 1-2, and 0.5 since then. Now things are really going to get ugly with almost no chance of rain for weeks.
-
I cannot wait for the gorgeous weather coming early next week! Highs in the low 80s with low humidity? Get them grills ready and the beers chilled
-
Oh look, another t-storm for Rockville LOL
-
This shows how much of a craphole this place is and that it's not me exaggerating. Great looking radar moving in from west broke up right over me, then reformed east. This happens over and over. Only 0.5" total since July 2
-
Been watching the weather where our daughter is in Utah and it sounds glorious. Right now it's 73 with a DP of 50. Tomorrow she returns home to eastern NC
-
I plant a lot of lantanas for annuals since summers are so arid here. I can't believe we are looking at no rain this week after what it looked like a few days ago. My grass has shut down.
-
I watered everything this morning knowing there'd be no rain today or any time soon. This desert sh*thole is fully back to form now DROUGHT
-
Yest again everything misses and consolidates into a heavy solid line to the east. It's truly incredible how different the summer climate is between my microdesert and places just 10-20 miles south and east. With no rain for almost two weeks now, I can say DROUGHT

Looking like a big day for PA and just scattered stuff for central MD. Will have to get lucky to break this long dry streak
