  1. Good luck. And congratulations. Drought-stricken Stephens City thanks you as well. You know that drought thing you have going on is likely to follow you to your new house. Which incidentally is in a downsloped Mountain Shadow Desert as well. I looked at the annual maps and that place is the driest in the region. It is a beautiful part of Virginia though. Cheers to you and enjoy.
  2. Wxlover is right about the truss spacing. But most of these older homes were built in the 40s and 50s or earlier and used stick-built roof systems with wood that came from local Mills. The heavy hard stuff that you can't find anymore. And most of them have 1x4 wood slat/ panel roof sheathing not the standard 5/8 inch plywood. Many of the homes have 7/12 to 12/12 pitches BUT most of the front or rear porches have far less pitch and tend to collapse if not maintained after a heavy snow that doesn't blow away.
  3. I lived in Oswego County for seven years. I am an avid snow lover. I got tired of it. Saw more snow than I ever needed. Was up there during the 1992-1993 season where we had over 300 inches in my area. I decided I couldn't take it anymore and moved down to Arlington the following year. So snow does have a shelf life for sure to some people. Especially when you get too much of it.
  4. Definitely stay on 11. Do not get on 81. Do not get on 81. I wouldn't go any further north than Adams Center. Honestly not sure you can even make it safely North of Pierpoint Manor but give it a shot. Good luck. Be safe.
  5. Nice Reaper Man!! See if you can get a hotel and re-position yourself up in Adams or Adams Center. I think the jackpot will be in that area. It's slim pickings though re hotels but there should be something available. And you can take your time and crawl up Route 11 without having to worry about stranding yourself on I-81. Good luck. Keep the pictures coming.
  6. I guess the Djoos is finally loose. He stunk anyway.
  7. Yes but they extended his contract for several years so it won't be a rental at least.
  8. Judging by the moves every other team is making I think the ISLES have gotten the best one
  9. Exactly. Or go to an Olympic-sized rink and open it up a little bit. Sometimes it feels like with the players getting so large there's no room to do anything creative.
  10. Pages 13 and 14. The 2nd rant is a work of art.
  11. One of the greatest of all time. I read that post over and over and it was a true measure of a broken, yet hilarious man who cracked.
  12. The moisture was there. Some of the globals were too far suppressed. The temperatures were the issue. That's where the mesos were off. I got .89 of rain with just a dusting on the deck and roof to show for it. Once you get about a third of a mile Inland from where I am at it's consistently 1-2 inches. But the 4 and 5 inch reports came from places well away from any influence of the local waterways. Western Suffolk and Franklin were the jackpot. And I think somewhere south of Greenville North Carolina may have gotten 5. Not sure about that either. But 1-4 is spot on. Meh.
  13. Finally have moderate snow Currituck NC, 33. Nothing accumulating. Went from 36 to 33 in about 20 minutes with the wind shift. I've seen a report of four in from Franklin and 2 inches in Suffolk but nothing around 3 inches.... in Norfolk? Good for you. Coastal influence is now starting to take place so hopefully we get a few more bands through the night
  14. Finally snowing in Currituck as the storm is pulling away. 35. Congrats to all who have seen accumulations.
  15. Too early but you are more right than wrong. Let's see how it plays out but it has been a bust from Edenton through Elizabeth City and up into Hampton Roads. This was a bull's-eye on many models. I suspect someone southeast of Greenville will end up getting four or five inches but that may be max.
  16. It didn't quite work out for Hampton Roads. Richmond did better. And I never turned to snow just south of the virginia-north Carolina border south of Chesapeake. Just a windy Rainy Night.
  17. Not surprising at all. This is my first full-time winter here. Part time last year. No accumulation in my hood. They get 2 inches on average. Many years nothing. And some years they get a good 8 or 12 inch storm. In 2018 the sound froze over, so it can get cold right on the water. In the two Winters I've been here the low temperature was 27. And that was about 10 days ago. Obviously we didn't move here for smell. Quite the opposite. I can drive a mile West or north...or southwest of my location and it is snowing right now.
  18. Currituck. 14 miles south of Va border right on Currituck sound. Windiest place Ive ever lived.
  19. Yes. This is true. Plus it's been raining at my house the whole time. Had a few flakes in the afternoon. Now just a windy, driving light rain. Dynamics staying south for sure. Still 0.00 for the last 2 winters here.
  20. I'm on the south side of the Dismal Swamp in pasquotank North Carolina. Definitely blobs of white missiles mixing in during the heaviest bursts Had more snow in Gates County a little while ago.
  21. It's never a good sign when it's already precipitating a hundred and fifty miles to your Northeast. I'm driving through Gates County in Northeast North Carolina with a slushie mix. 36 degrees.
  22. From Met ILMross in SE Forum...he's thinking along the same lines
  23. That's dirty talk. I'm right on the water so I'm worried any NE or N wind can turn me over to rain. I need W or NW.
