  1. I'm very curious to see what Whitmers next update for Michigan will be. With April 30 just 9 days away, usually she will announce the next step several days in advance, or at least hint at it.
  2. A cold November and cold April bookending a mild winter actually makes the winter seem longer, because while milder than avg, DJF was obviously "cold" with "frequent" snow, relatively speaking. 6 of the last 7 mornings have had a low between 25-30F, quite unusual for April. With the two snowfalls of the past week, Detroit is at 4.9" for the month, which is the 12th snowiest April on record.
  3. The most consecutive days with 1"+ snowcover was 9, set twice (Nov 11-19 & Jan 18-26). If you count days with T snowdepth, there were a total of 73 days with some snow on the ground (41 days 1"+, 32 days T). It could certainly be much better but it also could be worse. The best period of snowcover was mid-Jan to mid-Feb when only a few days had 0 depth 2020-01-18 5 2020-01-19 4 2020-01-20 4 2020-01-21 4 2020-01-22 4 2020-01-23 4 2020-01-24 3 2020-01-25 2 2020-01-26 1 2020-01-27 T 2020-01-28 T 2020-01-29 T 2020-01-30 T 2020-01-31 T 2020-02-01 T 2020-02-02 1 2020-02-03 0 2020-02-04 0 2020-02-05 0 2020-02-06 2 2020-02-07 3 2020-02-08 3 2020-02-09 2 2020-02-10 3 2020-02-11 2 2020-02-12 T 2020-02-13 1 2020-02-14 2 2020-02-15 2 2020-02-16 1
  4. Yes, isnt that something lol. The type of Winter lover I am, this was certainly not my Winter of choice, but I also disagree when people act like the snowfall total makes the Winter look better than it was or something along those lines. It is what it is. That's why there's so many other facets to the weather than just how much snow fell. The bottom line was, this was for all intents and purposes and average snow season, technically a drop above average. The number of snowcover days of 1"+ averages 50, but this year DTW saw 41 days, so that is moreso indicative of the mild Winter. DTW snowfall this season: Oct- T (-0.1) Nov- 9.5" (+8.0) Dec- 2.7" (-7.0) Jan- 9.7" (-2.8) Feb- 14.7" (+4.5) Mar- 1.7" (-5.2) Apr- 4.9" (+3.2) May- ?
  5. Other interesting quirks of this season for Detroit. November 9.5" (4th snowiest) December 2.7" (21st least snowy) March 1.7" (21st least snowy) April 4.9" (12th snowiest)
  6. Woke up to 27F and what snow survived melting was frozen into a crust. It was a crunchy cold wintry April 18th, but dripping has already began and i THINK spring has sprung.
  7. Looks like a solid 2-5" snowfall for southeast Michigan from Detroit-Ann Arbor south to the border, with little to no accumulation for the northern burbs. Storm totals include 5.0" Ann Arbor, 3.4" DTW, 3.3" Wyandotte, 3.0" Morenci. The 3.4" at DTW puts them at 43.2" on the season, so this season goes into the books 0.5" above avg. While a good deal of the snow melted yesterday, you could see the remaining snowcover on this mornings visible sattellite.
  8. I mean, I like summer, but yeah, if its gonna snow I wont complain.
  9. Thanks! Its my favorite from yesterday. I live just a few blocks from the tracks and took a walk, it was just awesome. Would have been awesome any time of the year, but felt unreal that it was April 17th.
  10. Nice pic. Thanks, I love my train track pic, it could be a winter postcard
  11. Probably over 3" but its compacting, this morning in that band it was gorgeous!
  12. I took a jebwalk when that band was coming through. I was in heaven, the scenery was just amazing. Don't even care that its April 17th
  13. Wow it is absolutely gorgeous outside. Heavy snow, absolute Winter wonderland
  14. Nice pics. As I posted earlier in the thread, we had very heavy snow which created picturesque scenes for a few hours, however once the snow moved out and began to melt, we only got flurries the rest of the day, missing all those squalls. As you said, let's see what tomorrow brings!
  15. Honestly, I was outside yesterday in the snow and I'm late, what the hell it's going to melt right away anyway, might as well make a Snowman. Picked up a bit of mud and debris along the way
  16. Looking forward to tomorrow, with as scenic as yesterday snowfall was, I'm hoping tomorrow will be even better. A few more nudges North would not hurt either lol. To date Detroit is at 39.8" of snow on the season. The current official average is 42.5" (fwiw the 20th century avg was 40.0" and the period of record avg (1880-2019) is 41.0"). For all its wacky ups and downs this will go into the books as an average snow season.
  17. 25゚ this morning. Yesterdays snowfall had melted by evening, but snowwoman April Mae survived.
  18. Yesterday's 1.4" of snow here actually melted down to exactly 0.14" of water. One of the rare times exactly 10:1 actually happened. Of course, realistically during the heaviest rates it was probably a little better than 10:1 and then in the slower rates a little bit of QPF was wasted
  19. Rates will absolutely drop the temperature is. Detroit dropped to 30° today in heavy snow between 1-2pm when temperatures should be in the upper 50s lol
  20. I love Michigan but this minority that protested at the Capitol were pure idiots
  21. It was crazy how it instantly turned into a Winter wonderland earlier, and then hours later was gone
  22. The snow from earlier melted...did that new squall stick at all?
  23. Todays snow was fun. Very heavy snow for a time, smack dab at peak heating hours and it still accumulated. Picked up 1.4" here, bringing season total to 39.8"...and 1.2" at DTW brings season total to 39.7".
  24. Most in Detroit saw 2 or 3 storms of 6+ this winter, so that's not bad, but the nickels and dimes were less than normal. 2014 was an absolutely amazing Winter. We had 6 storms of 6" plus, but 5 of them were 8" plus, which is unheard of for here in the land of frequent nickels and dimes. What I will not give to replay that Winter.
